2020 Buckeye Elite Showcase - Sneak Peek

THE ARMS

Ashton Schroeder RHP / 3B / Oak Harbor, OH / 2021

The athletic righty showcased the best fastball in the event sitting at 85-87 mph and topping out at 88 mph. This is an increase in velocity since we last saw him in February, topping out at 86 mph. Has more to offer than just a fastball, his slider looked to be his best breaking pitch on this occasion with good shape and sharp sinking bite at 76-77 mph. His curveball has more depth than his slider with 11/5 tilt and some late bite thrown between 72-74 mph. He also mixes in a deceptive changeup, throwing it while using fastball arm speed  at 79-80. He is one to watch this summer.

Chase Carter RHP / C / Lexington, OH / 2021

This is the first time we got a good look at the strong solid framed, Carter and he didn’t disappoint. Throws using regular effort and some quickness to his arm speed from a ¾ slot. He offers a solid three-pitch mix, with his fastball sitting at 84-86 mph. His  deceptive changeup is an above average pitch with good sink thrown between 73-75 mph. The curveball has more of a slurvy 11/5 shape with depth and has sharpness to it at 69-72 mph. His bat was also intriguing displaying a combination of bat speed/strength reaching a top exit velocity of 96 mph.

DJ Newman RHP / SS / Archbold, OH / 2022

A guy whose numbers have seen a nice spike since last year and could continue on that path with his athletic, projectable body frame. From the mound he throws with quick arm speed from a ¾ slot. His fastball was thrown between 82-86 mph. Has a curveball that projects well with an 11/5 shape that has some sharpness to it and a little bit of late bite, thrown between 70-72 mph. Also reached a top exit velocity of 96 mph and registered a 6.91 60-yard dash.

Brody Symsick RHP / 3B / Galion, OH / 2022

Right-hander, who offers a solid three-pitch mix. Throws with regular effort and has quick arm speed through a ¾ slot. His fastball was thrown consistently at 83-84 mph. Curveball has an 11/5 shape with sharpness and some late bite at 69-71 mph. His changeup is a good third pitch for him, showing deceptiveness using good arm speed at 76-77 mph. He also reached a top exit velocity of 89 mph.

RJ Shunck LHP / 1B / Evergreen, OH / 2022

The tall lefty with a 6-foot-6, 190-pound frame, lean, long limbs, and plenty of room for continued physical development. From the mound he throws with a fluid arm action and quick arm speed. His fastball sat at 81-83 mph. The breaking ball is a solid offering with a tighter shape and sharpness thrown between 68-71 mph. Showed a feel for a changeup that was thrown near fastball arm speed at 66-67 mph. Also reached a top exit velocity of 89 mph.
