2020 Northeast Future Games - Team Ohio Workout Day Notes

 The 2020 Future Games has a different look to it as the Northeast has decided to do their own Future Games based off of Covid-19 restrictions. PBR Michigan, PBR New England, PBR New Jersey, PBR New York, PBR Ohio, and PBR Pennsylvania are combining for the Northeast Future Games at Stern Field and Showers Field in Pennsylvania.

Catchers

Mason Eckelman C / 2B / Walsh Jesuit, OH / 2023

Report: Oozes feel at the plate. Movements are smooth/well timed and everything was off the barrel. Also took one out to pull side. The hit tool is for real. Good athlete behind the dish who can block/receive at an impressive level considering how young he is. Arm strength is a big time tool.

Nathan Manley C / 3B / Moeller, OH / 2023

Report: A bat that could play multiple roles inside a lineup. Nice combination of feel for contact, strength/bat speed. Ball comes off well, showing the ability to leave the yard to pull side. Everything was well struck and in the air. Showed very well. Really impressed catch/throw wise. Very quick feet with advanced exchange abilities. Tossed it with carry and accuracy.

Infielders

Parker Corbin SS / C / Cincinnati Country Day, OH / 2024

Report: Advanced abilities at the plate for class. Very loose, athletic stroke who backspun the baseball from line to line. Looked anything but phased by the bright lights. The best round we’ve seen from him. Also showed well in the infield. Plays low, athletic and fast throughout. All the tools to be a well above average defender who can play multiple spots.

Cam Gilkerson OF / 1B / Hilliard Darby, OH / 2023

Report: Advanced combination of physicality and raw bat speed. One of the louder bats that state has to offer. Hit a slightly higher than head high line drive at 100 off the bat that travelled off the centerfield wall. Corner skill set defensively with above average athleticism in the outfield or at first base. Ball skills appeared a bit cleaner in the outfield.

A.J. Havrilla 3B / 1B / Canfield, OH / 2023

Report: Once again stood out for his combination of physicality and ability to square up the baseball. A type of bat that profiles to do damage and have a higher batting average. Very productive BP that was explosive at times. Corner skill set in the infield. Fluid movements with respectable ball skills.

Blake Bowen 3B / OF / Wooster, OH / 2023

Report: Took the second pitch he saw off the scoreboard and he didn’t slow down much from there. One of the better BP Team Ohio had to offer. Deposited several balls over the fence throughout the round. Explosive bat with big time upside. Continues to grow as a defender. Rangy, athletic with more than serviceable ball skills. Corner skill set.

Caden Bates SS / OF / Alliance, OH / 2023

Report: Easy moves that come together well. Compact swinger with good direction/the ability to work line to line. Both strength and hand speed are above average for class. Utility defender with functional athleticism/ball skills. A guy that can play the outfield and infield at an above average clup.

Caden Crawford 1B / OF / Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, OH / 2022

Report: One of the more explosive rounds from the Team Ohio squad. Ball looks different coming off his bat with exit velocities over 100 multiple times, with several shots leaving the yard. As physical of a bat as you’ll find in the state. Well above average athlete for the first base position. Moves well over there with respectable ball skills. Showed baseline tools that appear he could play a corner outfield spot if need be as well.

Billy Adams SS / 2B / St Ignatius, OH / 2022

Report: Prototype top of the order bat. Compact, efficient path that plays to both gaps. Will distribute the ball around the yard/takes what the pitch gives him. Barrel machine that squares up everything with more pop than frame would indicate. Can really pick it up the middle of the infield. Feet are athletic and well timed. Very solid defender.

Samuel Slodic SS / RHP / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin, OH / 2022

Report: Loose athletic stroke from the right side. Gas added noticeable physicality since we saw him last which has translated to jump off the barrel. Turned and burned on balls to pull side with natural spin abilities to oppo gap. Tools are there for him to be a versatile guy inside a lineup. One of the best glove guys on the Team Ohio roster. Very athletic actions with advanced ball skills. Has all the tools to stay up the middle at the next level.

Outfielders

Jake Hanley OF / RHP / William Mason, OH / 2024

Report: Hard to believe you’re looking at a 2024 in the box. 6-foot-4 uber physical bat who hit back to back bombs in BP, depositing several throughout the round.  The upside simply isn’t difficult to see here. Ridiculous BP. Also showed well in the outfield. Fluid actions with a big arm. Corner skill set that is advanced for class.

Connor Walendzak OF / SS / Perrysburg, OH / 2023

Report: Stock continues to ascend throughout the summer. Started off the day by running a 6.69 60-yard dish and then took the physical BP we’ve come to expect from him running it up to 100 off the bat. All the tools are here and all he’s done is mash in game. Athletic mover in the outfield with above average ball skills. Tossed the rock to home plate with accuracy and respectable carry. Also showed ball skills and athleticism in the infield as well.

Jackson Campbell RHP / OF / Cincinnati Country Day, OH / 2022

Report: Good athlete with two-way potential. Smooth mover with respectable burst when he pulls the trigger. All field approach with natural spin to the gaps. One of the more explosive rounds we’ve seen from him. Everything was 90+ and his ability to spin the ball naturally led to some impressive carry as well. Really showed well in the outfield. Arm is a big time tool with the ball jumping out of the hand with an easy carry through target.

MVP Of Workout Day 

Brady Shannon 3B / OF / Youngstown Ursuline, OH / 2022

Report: 6-foot-3, beast of an athlete that has present D1 offers for football and baseball. It’s hard to take a better round than what we saw from Shannon. Left the yard 6 times with one of his bombs landing over the building in left field. The type of round you didn’t want to end that had consistent oohs and ahhs from the crowd. Corner type skill set in the outfield. Moves well with obvious athleticism and above average ball skills.
