From top to bottom, the 2020 class has a chance to be one of the more impressive classes to come out of high school in some time. Loaded with elite position players at premier positions as well as frontline arms with power stuff, the class is stocked with talent from top to bottom. With the release of PBR’s
2020 Rankings, On the Hunt takes a look at seven players from the updated and expanded list including three uncommitted standouts as well as a closer look at four committed prospects. Players on the list are from British Columbia, California, Kansas, Maryland, Ohio, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.

Max Wagner SS / RHP / Green Bay Preble, WI / 2020

Wagner has the look of a “gamer”, and will likely succeed in any position that he is put in. He recently produced a 98 mph exit velocity at a PBR Wisconsin workout, and showcased quick, strong hands that work directly to the ball with lag in the zone. Working mainly to the middle of the field, the ball jumps off Wagner’s bat as he appears “hitterish” at all times with an athletic load from an athletic stance. The 5-foot-11, 190-pounder features durable strength throughout his frame, and has the athleticism to stick on the left side of the diamond. He possesses confident hands with a quick first step that allows him to smoothly field ground balls before letting his strong, 91 mph arm play across the field. Also having the ability to hop on the mound and pound the zone with his fastball, Wagner was up to 85 mph at the same workout where he put together a simple, repeatable delivery that allowed his arm to work freely. His curveball takes 11/5 shape and is thrown at a firmer, 73-74 speed, so there are some signs that he could eventually end up as a middle of the order type bat who can close out games. Overall, Wagner will likely be followed closely by recruiting coordinators all summer.
