The beginning of 2022 meant it was time for the Prep Baseball Report Scout Days to come into full action and that was the case once again this year.

Organizations throughout Ohio have been on display for nearly two months now as players not only hope to gain more exposure in their quest to be seen by college coaches, but also get a glimpse at their numbers to see what kind of progress has been made in the offseason.

Members of organizations in the state, from head coaches to director of player development, have been contacted and given the opportunity to provide a view of what stood out at their PBR Scout Days.

Over the next few weeks, PBR will publish a report on each of the Scout Days that have been submitted from organizations across Ohio.

2022 Organizational Spotlight: Miami Valley Prospects

Ryan Townsend talks with us about the organization.

1) How do you feel the showcase went?
Townsend: Overall, I thought all of our guys performed well. We had really impressive numbers all across the board and I was very proud of our guys and what they displayed. They’ve been putting in the work all winter and it was really fulfilling to see their work translate into great results.

2) Who are some of the prospects that stood out to you and are there any performances worth mentioning?
Townsend: A lot of guys stood out to me during our Scout Day. Just to name a few, Gavin Roper had a really impressive showing on the mound along with Nate Cory. Jeremiah Johnson and Jack Howard both had great rounds of BP and showcased great EV’s. Caleb Akins, I thought, also performed well. He showcased great behind the plate, on the mound and swinging it at the dish. His hard work has really paid off this winter and it showed. Max Dunaway, Jake Downey, Hunter Steinke, Jimmy Snyder and Matthew Hempker are also worth mentioning as top performers. I was really impressed with all those guys

3) In looking at summer, touch on some highlights that are ahead and what you expect.
Townsend: We’re expecting a really good summer from our organization as a whole. We had a lot of success as an organization last summer and guys have continued to develop and mature throughout the process. Our 2023 class is one we anticipate a big summer from. There’s a lot of high-end talent in that group and we’re excited to see how they perform.

4) Are you registered for any PBR tournaments and, if so, which ones and what are your thoughts on them?
Townsend: Yes, we do plan to play in PBR tournaments this summer. Our 15U and 16U teams open the summer June 2-5 in Toledo at the PBR Great Lakes Underclass. A little bit later in the summer, July 7-10, our 17U team also heads up to Toledo for the PBR Mid-American Classic.
