The beginning of 2022 meant it was time for the Prep Baseball Report Scout Days to come into full action and that was the case once again this year.

Organizations throughout Ohio have been on display for nearly two months now as players not only hope to gain more exposure in their quest to be seen by college coaches, but also get a glimpse at their numbers to see what kind of progress has been made in the offseason.

Members of organizations in the state, from head coaches to director of player development, have been contacted and given the opportunity to provide a view of what stood out at their PBR Scout Days.

Over the next few weeks, PBR will publish a report on each of the Scout Days that have been submitted from organizations across Ohio.

2022 Organizational Spotlight: North Columbus Bruins

Dustin Cook talks with us about the organization.

1) How do you feel the showcase went?
Cook: The showcase was excellent. Jordan (Chiero) and his staff do a great job. I also loved that we lucked into the great video coverage and recruiting talk. It was awesome for our Brand to be out on so many people’s social media feeds. The event was a great opportunity for our guys to do one of a few things:

  1. Get metrics and measure themselves against same age competition.
  2. Get comfortable with the showcase format, pressures, and mental side, that is if they haven't done one before.
  3. Get their profiles started and set up and obtain video.
  4. A chance to perform and put themselves on the map based on the guys who posted great stat lines.

2) Who are some of the prospects that stood out to you?

  • Evan Blumenschein 2023 Fairbanks
  • Conner Peer 2023 Dublin Scioto
  • Jack Geisler 2023 Dublin Scioto
  • Jake Pinho 2023 Upper Arlington
  • Evan DeLeone 2023 Upper Arlington
  • Garrett Smith 2023 Upper Arlington
  • Nick Smith 2024 Dublin Jerome
  • Jacob King 2024 Thomas Worthington
  • Bryce Evans 2024 Gahanna Lincoln
  • Quentin Harrison 2025 Elgin

3) Any performances worth mentioning?

  • Evan Blumenschein 2023 Fairbanks, Sub 1.92 pop time, 87 from the OF, 7.0 60, 90 exit velo.
  • Conner Peer 2023 Dublin Scioto, 90+ exit velo and projects big at the next level.
  • Bryce Evans 2024 Gahanna Lincoln, 95 exit velo.
  • Evan DeLeone 2023 Upper Arlington, 91 exit velo, 6.99 60.

4) In looking at summer, touch on some highlights that are ahead and what you expect.
Cook: We have two very solid clubs at the 16U and 17U levels that will make some noise. Both clubs have a very healthy group of returners, are deep in pitching, and bring to the table some very talented players. Both possess a very stable and tenured coaching staff that should have them competing at a high level. Our 15U team is a new club headed up by a first-year head coach who played in the program and was a head pitching coach for five years. It should be exciting to see how this team develops in their first year!

5) Are you registered for any PBR tournaments and, if so, which ones and what are your thoughts on them?
Cook: Our 17U team is in the PBR Summer Kickoff here in Columbus and look very much forward to the opportunities it will bring. PBR events are well run and provide a big opportunity for our guys!
