Complete Results from Ohio's Pre-Season Underclass



Below, we have recapped the complete results from the first Pre-Season Underclass in Dayton, Ohio. The report includes analysis of players from the Classes of 2014, 2015, and 2017. These players are still eligible for invitations to our upcoming summer events.

Class of 2014 

Alex Livingston, OF, Chaminade-Julienne HS, Class of 2014

6-foot, 170-pound outfielder that shows some baseball sense in his play. Ran a 7.12 60-yard dash. Needs to strengthen arm (73 mph) and improve overall body balance as he plays through the ball. Right-handed hitter that starts from an upright stance. Triggers hands from shoulder and makes good contact. Good hand finish. Upper body type hitter that needs to improve lower body torque.

Chris Wooten, RHP, Lancaster HS, Class of 2014

6-foot, 200-pound right-handed pitcher with big, soft frame. Shows some funk in delivery with moderate arm speed through 3/4 slot. Fastball ranged 77-78 mph with 70-72 mph change-up. Has some feel for curve (67-68 mph) but cut/slider shows more bit (73-74 mph).

CJ Schulte, C, Wilmington HS, Class of 2014

5-foot-11, 165-pound catcher that shows good catching skills with glove and lateral movement. Needs to quicken hand to glove exchange to improve split times (2.28-2.31). Registered 7.77 60-yard dash. Switch hitting prospect that has similar tendencies from both sides. Hits from wide base. Has shoulder level trigger but is upper body type hitter due to lack of lower half torque. Has good hand finish.

Colton Conn, IF, Indian Hill HS, Class of 2014

5-foot-10, 155-pound infielder. Shows good hands and balance in the field. Needs to continue improving footwork. Reached a top velocity of 68 mph across the infield. Ran a 7.52 60-yard dash. Left-handed hitter that starts from a slight crouch. Uses chest level hand trigger that produces a flat bat plane. Has one hand finish but gets good lower half torque.

Drew Bellus, 3B, Western HS (Indiana), Class of 2014

6-foot-4, 205-pound prospect with strong, solid frame. Ran 7.84 60-yard dash. Shows good hands from corner position with solid arm strength (81 mph). Will need more consistent lower half. Right-handed hitter that has some bat speed offensively. Triggers hands from the shoulder. Has power potential. Needs to keep more consistent backside load. Has one hand swing finish.  

Graham Oberer, C, Northmont HS, Class of 2014

6-foot-3, 200-pound catcher that good physical strength. Ran 7.78 60-yard dash. Has some lateral movement defensively. Needs to improve "dipping glove hand" action in receiving. Split times (2.24-2.48) will improve with enhanced glove to hand exchange. Right-handed hitter that starts from upright stance. Shows some power potential. Has good backside load. Needs to improve top hand in swing and better lower half tourque to enhance power bat. 

Jeff Paul, RHP/OF, St. Henry HS, Class of 2014

6-foot-3, 175-pound lanky bodied prospect with two-way potential. Ran 7.37 60-yard dash. Showed some tracking ability from outfield 72 mph arm strength. Needs to improve balance. Right-handed hitter that uses flat bat path from chest level trigger. Has good hand finish. On the mound, he shows moderate arm speed from the mound through upper 3/4 arm slot. Displays slight cross-body in delivery. Velocity on fastball was 74-75 mph. Curveball and changeup both registered at 69-70 mph.

Kaleb Reid, IF, Hamilton HS, Class of 2014

5-foot-9, 145-pound middle infielder that shows good hands and feet with 69 mph arm strength across the infield. Shows overall balance in action. Has bad tendency of "patting glove" before throws which lengthens transfer. Registered a 7.29 60-yard dash. Right-handed hitter that starts from open stance. Shows some loop in bat path. Makes good contact with some incorporation of his lower half. Uses one handed swing finish.

Lance Kielbaso, C, Stebbins HS, Class of 2014

6-foot, 170-pound prospect with lanky body. Shows some good receiving skills in boxing and lateral feet. Split times ranged 2.25-2.35 seconds. Needs to improve balance and keeping hand on top of ball more consistently with throws. Ran 7.48 60-yard dash. Right-handed hitter that starts from open stance. Has flat bat path swing from chest level hand trigger. Has some lower half torque.

Max Minnear, OF, Lakota East HS, Class of 2014

5-foot-11, 166-pound outfielder that shows some athleticism. Ran good 7.04 60-yard dash. Showed 75 arm strength. Could improve outfield skills with enhancement of proper crow hop and less hesitation in loading throws. Right-handed hitter that starts from an open stance. Has flat bat path. Could improve swing with better use of top hand. Has good hand finish and some lower half torque.

Mikel Marker, RHP/1B, West Carrollton HS, Class of 2014

6-foot-3, 210-pound prospect with big, solid frame. Two-way prospect that registered 7.69 60-yard dash. Good defensive actions around the bag. Fields to what he gets to. Shows 74 mph arm strength. Right-handed hitter that starts with upright stance, triggers hands from shoulder. Upper-body type hitter that needs to improve lower half torque to enhance potential power. Has some loop in bat path. Shows good delivery on the mound with moderate arm speed through upper 3/4 slot. Fastball ranged 77-79 mph. Has slurvy type curveball (61-64 mph) but cut/slider was better breaker, biting at 73-74 mph. Also showed straight change-up (67-68 mph).

Steven Beall, RHP, Oakwood HS, Class of 2014

5-foot-10, 135-pound righty with good balanced delivery. Has moderate arm speed from the upper 3/4 slot. Fastball velocity ranged 74-76 mph. Curveball has some downward tilt at 63-64 mph along with change-up (68-69 mph).

Tanner Schimmoeller, RHP, Ottawa-Glandorf HS, Class of 2014

6-foot-5, 185-pound tall, lanky bodied hurler that has moderate arm speed through upper 3/4 slot. Fastball velocity ranged 74-76 mph with some movement. Had some feel for downward tilt curveball (67-70 mph). Change-up showed some arm side run (70-72 mph).

Tim Hoppe, C, Clyde HS, Class of 2014

5-foot-11, 165-pound catcher with frame that projects future strength and durability. Ran 7.32 60-yard dash. Has good receiving skills and some lateral movement. Split times ranged 2.15-2.2 seconds. Pop time can improve he can lessen the length of his arm extension. Right-handed hitter hits from open crouch stance. Triggers hands from chest that causes flat bat plane (improve top hand). One hand swing finish. Shows some lower half torque.

Tyler Magley, IF/RHP, Liberty Union HS, Class of 2014

5-foot-10, 150-pound prospect that showed versatility in his play. Ran a 7.34 60-yard dash. Showed 72 mph arm strength. Needs to improve hand positioning. Right-handed hitter that starts with an open stance. Triggers swing with low hands which creates some loop to his path. Hand finish is good, needs to get more lower half torque. On the bump, has squared delivery with some sling action with 3/4 arm slot. Fastball velocity ranged 79-80 mph with some downward tilt on curve (67-70 mph). Change-up showed some downward path (72-73 mph).

Class of 2015

Alex Ennis, RHP/3B, Beavercreek HS, Class of 2015

6-foot, 175 prospect with medium sized body. Ran respectable 7.2 60-yard dash. Has good hands from corner infield. Needs to improve footwork and arm strength. Right-handed bat that hits from open stance. Uses chest level trigger and flat bat plane into zone (improve top hand). On the mound, throws from stretch delivery with moderate arm upper 3/4 slot. Fastball ranged 70-71 mph. Showed two breaking balls: curveball (63-64 mph) and cut/slider (better bite at 68 mph). Change-up was 61-64 mph.

Bailey Freas, RHP, Bloom-Carroll HS, Class of 2015

5-foot-7, 130-pound right-handed pitcher with moderate arm speed through 3/4 slot. Fastball velocity ranges 73-75 mph with good arm action on changeup (70-72 mph). Has little feel for curve as he tends to get hand under ball on release (61-62 mph).

Brad Croy, IF/C/RHP, Ottawa-Glandorf HS, Class of 2015

5-foot-8, 140-pound prospect with smallish, athletic build. Registered an 8.1 60-yard dash. Has good infield actions with hands and feet. Shows decent arm strength (70 mph) from all angles Hits from the right side with an open stance, triggers hands from chest. which creates flat bat path. Hand finish is good, but needs more consistent lower half torque. 

CJ Stablein, IF, Olentangy Orange HS, Class of 2015

5-foot-10, 165-pound infielder shows good hands. Shows hitch in his throwing motion. Reached top velocity of 74 mph across the infield. Would like to see improvement with feet and balance. Runs 7.37 60-yard dash. Right-handed hitter that starts from open stance. Uses chest level hand trigger that creates loop and length in his swing. Needs enhancement in top hand in swing and lower body torque.

Collin Moeller, OF, Troy HS, Class of 2015

6-foot-2, 175-pound outfield prospect. Shows physical projection in body. Ran 7.34 60-yard dash. Accepts ball well defensively. Needs to enhance lower body crow-hop and arm strength (77 mph). Right-handed hitter that starts with open stance and shoulder trigger. Has some lower body torque and one hand swing finish.

Corey Stanley, RHP, Bloom-Carroll HS, Class of 2015

5-foot-11, 140-pound prospect with medium lanky body. Shows some funk in front side of delivery. Uses moderate arm speed through 3/4 slot. Maintained 76 mph velocity on fastball with some downward movement. Two types of breakers. The cut/slider was most effective at 67-68 mph; also showed some feel on curve (60-61 mph). Change-up has some sink (67-69 mph).

Grant Macciocchi IF/RHP, Moeller HS, Class of 2015

6-foot, 150-pound prospect that shows projection in body. Ran a 7.43 60-yard dash. As a position player, he projects as future third baseman or second baseman. Has balance and 75 mph arm strength across the infield. Needs to improve accepting the ball and quicken transfer and exchange. Right-handed bat that starts with open, wide based stance. Uses front side leg kick and triggers hands from shoulder. Needs to quicken hands into zone. Has good hand finish.

Justice Griebel, RHP, Olentangy Liberty HS, Class of 2015

6-foot, 150-pound prospect with quick arm action from the 3/4 arm slot. Throws from the stretch with some cross body tendencies. Fastball velocity ranged 77-78 mph with some run. Has slurvy type breaking ball (67-70 mph) and straight change (71-72 mph).

Jake Mitchell, RHP, Monroe HS, Class of 2015

5-foot-10, 175-pound prospect with moderate arm speed through upper 3/4 slot. Needs to improve overall balance. Fastball velocity ranged 77-79 mph with some movement. Shows some feel on downward plane curve (63-64 mph). Slows down arm speed on change-up (72-73 mph).

Matthew Cooke, RHP/INF, St. Charles, Class of 2015

5-foot-10, 145-pound prospect with two-way potential. Shows good infield actions. Has arm strength but tends to sling in action. Runs 7.48 60-yard dash. Shows moderate arm speed through the upper 3/4 slot. Has some push in delivery. Fastball ranged 71-73 mph with some feel on 62-63 mph curveball. Change-up (65-66 mph) showed some good action. 

Mitchell Schneider, IF, Kenton Ridge HS, Class of 2015

5-foot-9, 160-pound infielder that shows excellent fielding skills in feet and hands. Accepts ball well with 74 mph arm strength from all angles. Registered a 7.31 60-yard dash. Right-handed hitter that starts from wide-based open stance. Currently has upper body swing, triggering hands from shoulder. Needs to implement more lower body torque in swing to increase power.

Richard Phillips, OF, Pickerington Central HS, Class of 2015

Shows the ability for bat to be his ticket on next level. Right-handed hitter has upright stance. Quick bat speed into zone from chest hand trigger. Would like to see more top hand in swing to lessen loop in bat path. Good hand finish and some lower torque. Runs 7.65 60-yard dash. Receives ball well in outfield. Lefty thrower with 71 mph arm strength at present, but should improve with enhancing proper lower body "crow hop."

RJ Williams, RHP/IF, Pickerington Central HS, Class of 2015

6-foot, 165-pound athletic player. Accepts ball well with hands, shows comfortability with different arm angles. Registered a 7.39 60-yard dash. Left-handed hitter with an open stance. Shows quick hands into zone from shoulder trigger. Has controlled loop in swing path. Would like to see improved lower body torque to enhance power. On the mound, he has cross body delivery and moderate arm speed through upper 3/4 slot. Fastball sits 73-75 mph with 65-67 mph slurvey curveball and 65-66 mph change-up.

Tyler Makuch, IF, Liberty Union HS, Class of 2015

5-foot-7, 145-pound prospect with smallish build. Shows good hands and feet defensively. Second base type. Needs to improve arm slot on throws. Registered 7.54 60-yard dash. Right-handed hitter that starts from open stance. Uses chest level hand trigger. Has controlled upper-cut into zone. Needs to maintain good backside load.

Class of 2017

Ronnie Allen, Jr, C, Hamilton HS, Class of 2017

5-foot-10, 160-pound catching prospect with good, projectable. Registered a 7.75 60-yard dash. Shows ability to receive well with some lateral movement. Needs to get stronger to enhance durability. Split time of 2.24-2.54) will increase with improved glove to hand exchange. Presently, his best tool is his bat. Switch hitter that shows similar tendencies from both sides. Has wide hitting stance. Needs to shorten base to enhance lower body power torque. Triggers hands from shoulder. Good finish to his swing
