Countdown to Signing Day: Cincinnati's 2013 Recruiting Class

With the fall signing period starting on November 14th, PBR Ohio will be taking a look at the number of players from Ohio headed to a college program within the state’s borders. Each day, we will break down a school's class player-by-player. Earlier, we reviewed the recruiting classes from Akron and Bowling Green, and now we move on to the University of Cincinnati.

UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI

After bringing in a class of 17 players in 2012, Coach Clearly and recruiting coordinator Coach Heilmann have a small recruiting class for 2013. UC stayed local for their two Ohio recruits.

Valley View right-handed pitcher Andrew Zellner was one of the last pitchers to throw at the Top Prospect Games in June, and while some schools departed, those who stuck around were able to get a sneak glimpse of Zellner’s 87-89 mph fastball and hard breaking ball. It didn’t take recruiting coordinator JD Heilmann long after the showcase to secure Zellner’s commitment. Later in the summer, Zellner’s fastball was registered in the low 90’s at a local MLB workout. Richmond

UC followed up with infielder Jake Richmond (pictured right) from Oak Hills. Richmond, who’s older brother Josh was drafted in the 12th round out of Louisville, is a versatile infield prospect
