ARCHBOLD - A summer of learning has Rigo Ramos assessing his future.

“My eyes have been opened,” the Archbold senior said. “I see what I’m capable of doing and I’m wanting it more.”

That is a change from the past when the 6-5 170-pound left-handed hurler was uncertain which sport to even pursue in college.

“Last summer I did not picture playing at a big school or baseball at all,” explained the two-sport standout, who also excels in basketball. “But playing this summer for Bo Jackson opened my eyes that I can compete with higher competition and how much I like playing baseball.”

A summer that Ramos began throwing in the low-80s ended with the second-rated unsigned senior lefty in Ohio’s 2019 class topping out at 87.

“I’m making progress,” Ramos said. “Right now at the top of my list is getting stronger and getting my velocity up. Once I get there I can work on my changeup. Now I get along with a fastball and slider combo but as I get older I need more. I want to work on a changeup and throw in a curve, too.”

The upside of Ramos has numerous colleges showing an interest in the 79th-ranked senior in the state.

“I have a list of 40 schools I’m talking to that I’ve started to shorten,” Ramos explained. “Most are schools that saw me play with the Bo Jackson team or at PBR events. I’ve had interest from MAC schools and it’s started to stretch out to Big East and Big 10 schools. The tough part is everyone wants you to come on a visit but you can’t visit them all, so I’m looking at majors and the baseball program and that’s where I’ll narrow it down.”
