Inside the Recruitment: '16 RHP Mark Meyer commits to Marshall

Mark Meyer, RHP, Tuslaw HS, Class of 2016

PBR: Why did you choose Marshall?

Meyer:  Coach Newman! He made me feel like i was apart of the Herd, and made me feel like i had the potential to be an important piece of the puzzle. He promised me that we are both going to work very hard to reach my full potential and it felt like a big school with lots of amenities with small school attention.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Meyer: I talked with a lot of schools but Coach Newman and the Marshall Staff pursued me and made me feel really comfortable very quickly.

PBR:  Where did the coaching staff first see you compete and how did your relationship develop with the rest of the coaching staff?

Meyer: Ed Santa Showcase my Freshman year. Texting with Coach and then I visited earlier this summer. Coach Waggoner is a competitive guy and i know he will demand the best of me.

PBR: You are only a junior.  Why did you choose to commit so soon and are you finished with the recruiting process?

Meyer: I loved the baseball facilities and that the community is so supporting of the programs at Marshall. I felt a great connection with Coach Newman and Coach Waggoner. I believe that they will both push me in the right direction to succeed at this level. I think I have found my home!

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help the Herd?

Meyer:  I want to compete against the best, and i hope i get the opportunity to get to do so early on in my career for the Herd. Conference USA is a tough baseball conference and I look to contribute in anyway I can to win.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Meyer: My brother, K.C., he has taught me what it takes to succeed and work hard. He pushes me to always strive to be the best version of myself i can be. He taught me that hard work pays off, and how to overcome adversity.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?

Meyer: Ohio Elite (Valentine) anytime I'm with the guys its fun. They are a great group of guys to spend the summer with. I look forward to making more memories with them as summer continues.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter you have faced?

Meyer: Ty Duvall & Zane Harris recently, but when i was a sophomore playing for Brian Hopkins' Midwest Redbirds there were definitely some great hitters that had a lot more experience than me at the time.
