Dylan Appolloni, RHP, Watterson, Class of 2017

PBR: Why did you choose Ohio Dominican?

Appolloni: I chose ODU because I liked how close it was to home. I also felt comfortable with Coach Antonides and Coach Hull, as we developed a relationship very quickly. In addition to those, the academics are stellar and I really liked what I saw baseball-wise in the fall when I saw a game.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Appolloni: Alderson Broaddus, Lake Erie, Seton Hill, and Ohio Wesleyan as well as several other D2 and D3 schools.

PBR: Where did Ohio Dominican first see you? How did your relationship develop with coaching staff?

Appolloni: Coach Hull saw me pitch against Gahanna in the spring during school ball. We touched base again in the summer and early fall to set up a visit. The visit went very well and we stayed in touch almost daily from then on.

PBR: Coach Antonides was hired as the head coach for ODU this summer, how does it feel to be a part of his first recruiting class?

Appolloni: It's exciting! The other players that have committed in my class are very solid and I'm pumped to be part of his initial class.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Appolloni: They expect me to come in, work hard, and compete for innings right away.

PBR: What summer team do you play on and how has travel baseball helped your development as a player?

Appolloni: I played for Ohio Elite Gessner last summer and will play for OEB again next summer with Coach Kirby. Travel baseball has helped me develop by allowing me to play against the best competition in the midwest summer after summer.

PBR: What was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Appolloni: Closing the last 2 innings against OEB - Ratcliff at Miami (OH). I got the save and all my pitches were working that day. Also, it was fun to pitch against a lot of my friends.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Appolloni: My parents. They have allowed me to play summer ball, payed for lessons, and have always been there for me. Not only them, but the coaches that have helped me over the years, Coach Manahan, Gessner, LaCorte, Pacella, and Moss to name a few.

PBR: What were your stats for this last season?

Appolloni: My ERA was 1.74 this past summer for OEB in 40+ innings of work according to Coach Gessner.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?

Appolloni: Seen a lot of good hitters, tough to pick just one.
