With the 2018 spring season right around the corner, PBR Ohio is eagerly anticipating bringing the Buckeye state the best high school coverage throughout the entire state. Starting mid-January, we began releasing team previews for teams across the state, leading into the Preseason All-State Teams as well as the Preseason State Rankings.

2018 Spring Team Preview: Kirtland Hornets

Team Name: Kirtland Hornets
Head Coach: Luke Smrdel
Division: III
2017 Record: 15-10
Conference Record: CVC Valley, 9-3 / 2nd Place
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 4/1

2018 Team Strengths:

  • Leadership
  • Speed
  • Defense

Coach Outlook: In the 2018 season, we return a fair number of players from last years DIstrict Runner-Up squad. Of the returners, 2 were PBR All-Ohioans last year, along with returning our ACE on the mound. We will need to figure out our pitching rotation early in the year, but we have multiple underclassmen in the program who have a lot of potential on the mound. If we are able to get consistent pitching, we have the lineup to be a very competitive team this year.

PBR Outlook: The Hornets and head coach Luke Smrdel have 4 starters returning and should be in the mix for the league and a team to watch come tournament time.
