WESTERVILLE - As an uncommitted senior, Jake Llaneza has an impressive understanding of where he stands when looking at his college future and the sport of baseball.

“It makes you anxious, but it’s a process,” the Westerville South 2020 said. “I’ll learn from the entire thing. I’m a very realistic person. I understand I’m not one of the big names that’s going to make a living off of baseball. For me, it’s important to go to college to get an education.”

But Llaneza’s baseball ability can not be overlooked, as shown at the recent PBR Preseason All-State Upperclass Showcase. The 10th-rated uncommitted senior in the state was one of just two participants at the event to pull off the triplicate of a sub-7.0 time in the 60 (6.84) with a plus-90 position velo (92) and exit velo (91).

“I learned where I was at competing against all the top guys there,” Llaneza noted. “I was able to compete with all the best there is in the state which was very pleasing.”

University of Charlotte has taken notice of the Llaneza, an outfielder/shortstop, and a visit to the Conference USA school in North Carolina is a possibility. But the drawback is that the school does not have an engineering program which Llaneza, a 4.28 (on a 4.0 scale) student, hopes to major in at college.

The 97th-rated senior in Ohio has already visited NAIA schools Lawrence Tech and Indiana Tech while an opportunity to walk on at Cincinnati is another possible option.
