AVON LAKE - The recruiting process with Bowling Green went quickly for Perry Miller.

“About a month ago I started talking to them,” the Avon Lake junior related. “Coach Adrian (Abrahamowicz) was sending them video in the winter. I began talking with (head) coach (Kyle) Hallock and two weeks later he offered. I went on a visit and I really enjoyed the school. That was my first time on campus. I decided that was where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do.”

A commitment with the Mid-American Conference school was too much to pass up for the 33rd-rated 2022 right-handed pitcher in Ohio.

“I like the opportunity with what they have going there,” Miller explained. “They’re going to be super good in a few years and I want to be part of that.”

Akron and Seton Hill were others showing an interest, but Bowling Green stood out in the eyes of the 69th-ranked junior in the state .

“It was the perfect time,” Miller said. “I wanted to get committed by early summer. They offered me and there were no others that were really looking hard at me so I pulled the trigger.”

Miller pointed to a pair of things that brought attention to BG.

“The big thing they liked was my age and my curveball,” Miller noted. “I’m younger for my class, I’m still 16.”

Recent improvement on the mound helped the cause according to the 6-0 160-pounder.

“I’ve always thrown hard, but adding offspeed has helped me become a better pitcher,” Miller said. “It helped me dominate in my junior year.”

It also proved important in making the idea of playing at the next level a reality.

“College baseball has always been in my mind,” Miller related. “My sophomore year I had a good pull down and it was then I realized D-I was possible. I worked hard for it and when they gave me this opportunity I had to take it.”

Still, getting noticed was, admittedly, not easy.

“It was stressful with covid and I didn’t know with the dead period if I’d be able to commit this early,” Miller noted. “Summer of last year and the fall were huge for me, just getting my numbers out there with PBR.”

There was other help along the way that assisted Miller in getting to this point in his game.

“Coach Jeff McClellan, my first summer coach, was a really good role model for me,” pointed out Miller in reference to his coach during fifth-ninth grade. “And coach Adrian helped a bunch with the recruiting process and the pitching side.”

The Avon Lake incoming senior believes he can be a major asset to the Bowling Green program in a year.

“I’m an energetic dude,” pointed out Miller, a 4.2 student currently uncertain about a college major. “I’m someone who’s going to bring energy every day and compete no matter what.”

When an official commitment was made, there was a feeling of accomplishment as well as satisfaction for Miller and his family.

“I’m so happy and my parents are so proud,” concluded Miller. “All the hard work I’ve put in has paid off and I can finally relax now.”
