Fairview vs Antwerp - 4/7/21

By: Dylan Hefflinger
PBR Ohio Editor in Chief / NW Scout

Luke Krouse LHP / OF / Antwerp, OH / 2022

Report: 6-2, 180-pounds with an athletic frame. Smooth/quick arm action on the bump, which projects in more velo to come. 3/4 arm slot with a repeatable delivery. Good three-pitch mix with the 4-seam, 2-seam, and curveball. The mound is the future for Krouse, but he can certainly swing it as well, with a nice LHH stroke. The Bowling Green State University commit is a definite follow.

Pitch Repertoire:

  • 4-Seam FB: 84-87. Showed some good like on the fastball.
  • 2-Seam FB:  80-83 mph. Good arm-side run.
  • Curveball: 70-74 mph. 1/7 shape with sharp break and good action. It was on today.
  • Changeup: 74-76 mph. Didn't use much in game, but showed in warmups. A developing pitch that could only add more to his already good arsenal.

Game Performance: 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 11 K

Caleb Frank RHP / C / Fairview, OH / 2021

Report: 6-1, 170-pounds with an athletic frame. Uses lower half well, while looking efficient with a smooth arm action that is repeatable. Three-pitch mix with a fastball, curveball, and slider.

Pitch Repertoire:

  • Fastball:  81-84 mph, 85T.
  • Curveball: 69-72 mph. 11/5 action with good depth when he stays on top of the baseball.
  • Slider: 74-76 mph. 10/4 shape with some sharpness to it at times.

Game Performance: 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 11 K

Defiance vs Wapakoneta - 4/6/21

By: Dylan Hefflinger
PBR Ohio Editor in Chief / NW Scout

Braeden Goulet LHP / OF / Wapakoneta, OH / 2022

Report: 6-1, 175-pounds with an athletic frame. The southpaw showed well in my first time seeing in a couple of years. Three-pitch mix and confident in all three. Repeatable delivery. The defense didn't help his cause, putting him in the strech more than he would want. As a position prospect, Goulet showed well at the plate and in the field. Put together three solid at bats which produced one of the two hits on the day for the team. Defensively he moved to right field and made a very nice diving play, saving some runs late in the game. Three-sport athlete, QB in football and shooting guard in basketball. Definite follow.

Pitch Repertoire:

  • Fastball: 81-84 mph, 86T. When thrown well, works down in the zone with some cut.
  • Curveball: 73-78 mph. 1/7 action with some sharpness at times.
  • Changeup: 76-79 mph. The arm drops a bit, but has good arm speed with arm-side run and sink.

Game Performance: 5.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K | 1-3

Jayden Jerger RHP / 1B / Defiance, OH / 2022

Report: 6-1, 180-pounds with an athletic frame. Quick arm action on the bump, which projects in more velo to come. A little funk to the delivery with the high leg kick and turn. Good three-pitch mix. Looking forward to see where the junior righty is later this spring velo wise. Definite follow.

Pitch Repertoire:

  • Fastball:  82-85 mph, 86T.
  • Curveball: 67-70 mph. 11/5 action with good depth when he stays on top of the baseball.
  • Changeup: 71-74 mph. Drops his arm a bit, but shows good arm speed and action on the baseball with the changeup.

Game Performance: 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 11 K

Paulding vs Defiance - 4/5/21

By: Dylan Hefflinger
PBR Ohio Editor in Chief / NW Scout

Sam Woods RHP / C / Paulding, OH / 2022

Report: 5-11, 205-pounds with a solid frame. First time seeing Woods play and he's most definitely a gamer. Shows confidence on the bump with his two-pitch mix. Command was an issue at times, but overall a solid pitching prospect. Offensively showcases an aggressive approach at the plate with an uphill plane to the swing. Roped a big time triple in the game.

Pitch Repertoire:

  • Fastball: 81-83 mph, 86T. The fastball works downhill and gets on hitters well.
  • Curveball: 66-72 mph. 12/6 shape with gradual depth.

Game Performance: 2-3, 2B, 2 R, 2 RBIs, BB | 3 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 0 K

Hunter Kauser C / RHP / Paulding, OH / 2021

Report: 5-9, 155-pound athletic frame. Kauser has been one of my favorite players in NW Ohio over the past few years and my first time seeing him in 2021, he does what he always does. At the plate he reached base all four times, going 2-3 with a single, double, 2 runs scored and a walk, as well as getting on via an error.  Smooth, athletic stroke from the right side. Compact swing with a level path to contact. Defensively, he stands out for the accuracy aspect of his game behind the dish. Whether it was game or in a showcase setting all the throws had zip, carry, and were right on the bag. Solid defender behind the dish. The righty also came in on the mound in relief, spotting the fastball well while mixing in two adequate offspeed offerings. Kauser is a player!

Pitch Repertoire:

  • Fastball: 79-82 mph, 84T. Spots the ball well.
  • Curveball: 68-70. 11/5 shape with gradual break.
  • Changeup: 73-75 mph. Solid arm-side run with similar arm speed as the fastball.

Game Performance: 2-3, 2B, 2 R, 2 RBIs, BB | 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
