Q and A with 2013 Kent State Commit: Eric Lauer (Midview HS)

Eric Lauer, LHP, Midview HS, Class of 2013

PBR: Why did you choose Kent State?

Lauer: I chose Kent State because it was the best fit for me academically and athletically. Also it is more convenient for my family and friends to be able to watch me play college baseball.

PBR: You had previously committed to Kentucky, why did you decide to change your decision?

Lauer: Both schools are outstanding academically and athletically, however Kent was a better fit due to location and family concerns.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Lauer: I have a great deal of respect for every university I have visited, but it really came down to Kent and Kentucky.

PBR: How did your relationship with the Flashes coaching staff help with your decision?

Lauer: Not to take anything away from Kentucky's coaching staff, they were outstanding throughout the recruiting process, however, coach Birkbeck's history in developing pitchers speaks for itself.

PBR:  You recently attended PBR’s Top Prospect Showcase.  How did that help you in the recruiting process?

Lauer: It allowed those interested to collect further information about me.

PBR:  What team do you play for in the summer?

Lauer: North Coast Gladiators

PBR: What sort of sacrifices did you have to make to play a travel intensive schedule during the summer?? What sort of advice would you pass on to players looking to make the same decision?

Lauer: You have to have a commitment and a willingness to sacrifice some of the things that others might enjoy.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Lauer: They expect me to work hard and earn a spot in the starting rotation.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?

Lauer: Not sure, we face many quality hitters this year, tough to name just one.
