Q and A with 2013 Marshall Commit: Spencer Iacovone (Moeller HS)

Spencer Iacovone, INF,DH, Moeller HS, Class of 2013

PBR: Why did you choose Marshall?

Iacovone: I chose marshal because of the location is not too far away but far enough away that it's not home. Also I use to live near Marshall and remember going to the football games and wanting to be a part of it.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Iacovone: Dayton, Xavier, Ohio state and NKU.

PBR: You have made your commitment very early.  Why did you chose to make your decision so soon and are you finished with the recruiting process?

Iacovone: I made my decision early because I was being pressured by schools on both sides, mainly because of the large amount of scholarship money being offered. I also knew after visiting Marshall that it was the right fit. I am finished with the recruiting process unless something in Marshall's program happens to change.

PBR:  You recently attended PBR’s Top Prospect Showcase.  How did that help you in the recruiting process?

Iacovone: PBR helped me get my name out to some schools that hadn't notice me before. Also made schools realize I was serious with my commitment to baseball in the long run.

PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?

Iacovone: Team wise it is obvious that we as a senior class want to repeat as state champions. Individually I want to break the single season homerun record at Moeller and of course have a better batting average than I did last year.

PBR: Moeller baseball has such a rich history.  How does it feel to be a part of such a great baseball program?

Iacovone: It's a beautiful feeling to know that it is a let down to not make it to the state championship. We play the highest competition day in and day out and it prepares us for the next level.

PBR:  Last spring you won the Division 1 State Championship.  How much pressure do you feel to repeat that success again this year and what will it take for it to happen?

Iacovone: I don't know it I would call it pressure as I would call it the want to become something that is rarely ever accomplished. Winning state is a difficult thing to do and to repeat is that much more difficult. What will need to happen is for us to gel as a team, work hard every day, and for us to accept our role on the team.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Iacovone: I play for Cincinnati Baseball Club and my most memorable moment was hitting a homerun at Midland in the 7th inning.

PBR: What were your stats this spring season at Moeller?

Iacovone: My stats this year at Moeller were BA: .403 HR: 5 DBLS: 12

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?

Iacovone: The toughest pitcher I faced was Taylor Cherry in the summer he no hit us for his first start.
