Q and A with 2015 Oakland Commit: Ryan Fitzgerald (Mount Vernon HS)

PBR: Why did you choose Oakland?

Fitzgerald:  I chose Oakland because I felt that it was a true family atmosphere and I believe it was the best fit for me as a student as well

PBR: What other schools were you considering? 

Fitzgerald:  Radford and Morehead State

PBR: Where did coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?

Fitzgerald:  The coaching staff first saw me at a tournament in Michigan when I played in their field. My relationship with them developed with a phone call from coach Musachio.

PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division 1 program?

Fitzgerald:   It is honestly relieving. It feels great to have found a great fit for baseball as well as my education.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?  

Fitzgerald:  The coaches expect me to be a hard worker on and off the field. They want me to be the kind of player that will get after it all the time.

PBR:  What were your expectations about the recruiting process?

Fitzgerald:  I knew it would be a nerve wracking process but I also knew that it would be very rewarding if I worked hard all the time.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Fitzgerald:  My dad has had the biggest impact on me as a baseball player. He has always believed in me and taught me that you can achieve anything if you keep your head in the right place.

PBR: What were your stats this spring at Mount Vernon? 

Fitzgerald:  I batted .460, had 18 stolen bases, 8 doubles, and 5 triples.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?

Fitzgerald:  Hands down Cameron Varga from Cincinnati Hills Christian.
