Q and A with 2016 Virginia Commit: Jackson Tedder (Beavercreek HS)

Jackson Tedder, LHP, Beavercreek HS, Class of 2016

PBR: Why did you choose Virginia?

Tedder:  I choose Virginia because they had everything that I was looking for. A place where I feel that I fit in, great baseball, outstanding academics, and a place that can help further my skills to the best of my potential.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Tedder:  The only other schools I was considering were Wright State and Ohio State

PBR: Where did the Virginia coaches first see you?  How did your relationship develop with them?

Tedder: They first saw me at PBR Future Games and followed me up into my fall ball season with the Midwest Redbirds. I called him the day after the games and we talked on the phone weekly.

PBR:  Was distance from home a factor in your decision?

Tedder: Originally I thought that distance would be a factor in my decision, but after my visit with Virginia I knew that it was where I wanted to be and where I think I can be very successful in both the classroom and on the field.

PBR: You have performed very well in numerous PBR events.  How did your performances enhance your recruiting process?

Tedder: The PBR events played a very large role in my recruiting process. All of my college looks have come from a coach seeing me at a PBR event.

PBR:  You are going in to your junior season.  Why did you choose to make your decision so early?  Are you completely finished with the recruiting process or are you still open to other options?

Tedder: I do not believe my decision was early. I knew Virginia was where I wanted to be. To compete in one of the best programs has always been my dream and soon to be reality. I am finished with the recruiting process.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?

Tedder:  The recruiting process well exceeded my expectations. As it was stressful and overwhelming at times, but it got me very excited for my future.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Tedder:  My dad has most definitely had the biggest impact on me as a baseball player. He has always pushed me to make the best of my abilities and to always strive for greatness. He beat it to my brain to be a pitcher and not a thrower since I first stepped on the mound. I have had many other impacts though. I couldn’t thank my coaches enough for helping me develop as a baseball player and as a person.

PBR: What were your stats this spring season at Beavercreek?

Tedder: IP: 56.1, W: 8, L: 1, K: 69, ERA: 0.99

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?

Tedder:  Riley Mahan was the toughest hitter that I faced so far. I felt as if I threw good pitches in good spots but he always put a nice swing on it, whether it was a base hit or not.
