Scouting Report

2018
Late bloomer who committed to Dayton last winter. The 6-5, 190-pound righty has seen his velo continue to rise over the past year and now sits 88-92, touching 93 mph with the fastball. The right-handed pitcher has developed a nice three-pitch mix. To compliment his fastball, Burford throws a 77-80 mph slider and an 82-84 mph changeup.

7/15/15
6-foot-2, 140-pound projectable frame. Over at third base he fields the ball into his body with a clean exchange. Winds up with he throws from a 3/4 slot with 72 mph arm strength across the diamond. Right-handed hitter with a little leg kick to load and a short, compact swing that gets in and out of the hitting zone with 67 mph exit velocity and was 5.3 down the line. On the mound the righty has a slow tempo delivery that he is able to repeat. Throws from a long, loose, 3/4 slot with good command of his fastball at 71-75 mph. Spins a breaking ball with gradual 10/4 break at 64-66 mph.

2/22/15
6-foot-1, 135-pound two-way prospect with skinny, wiry frame. On the mound, he showed a slow rhythm with a slight inward turn. Tendency to throw across his body a bit. Uses long arm action through a high-¾ arm slot. Regular effort to his delivery. Fastball sat 71-73 mph with some run. Breaking ball was down in the zone with gradual 11/5 movement and changeup was thrown with good arm speed at 66-68 mph. Defensively, he reached a top velocity of 62 mph across the infield with accuracy. Showed some range with average hands at this stage. Offensively, he shows a level bat path with line drive production. Swing has tendency to get long at times. Power should improve with increased physical strength and maturation. Ran a 5.3 home to first time.
