Team Ohio Future Games Spotlight: Ryan Christy, SS/OF

By Dylan Hefflinger
Ohio Editor in Chief/NW Scout

On July 30th through August 1st, PBR Ohio will take a select team of players in the Classes of 2017 and 2018 to represent Ohio at the PBR Future Games in Indianapolis at Grand Park.

Players receive exposure unlike any other event for underclassmen. Last year, 100+ colleges from all over the country were in attendance, including coaches from every Division I power conference in the country. Only players who have a legitimate shot at being a Division I recruit and who have an interest in the possibility of making a verbal commitment during their sophomore or junior seasons have been considered.

Team Ohio Future Games Spotlight: Ryan Christy, SS/OF

Ryan Christy, hittingName: Ryan Christy
Position: SS/OF
Class: 2017
Height/Weight: 5-foot-11, 155 pounds
High School: Twinsburg
Summer Team(s): Ohio Elite

Past Showcase/In-Game Performances:
Date: 6/30/15
Scouting Report: 5-foot-11, 150-pound thin, projectable body frame. Infielder uses pretty good footwork to approach ground balls, but could play through the baseball a bit more at times. He allows the ball to get a bit deeper into his body on occasion, and would benefit by fielding the ball with his hands more out in front of his body. He throws using a clean, short arm action coming from a ¾ slot, reaching 82 mph velocity. Right-handed hitter starts from an open stance, getting himself squared back up to being even before he swings. Uses a short load with his hands and swings with a level bat path through the zone. He finishes with a one-handed follow through and did a nice job of showing the ability to use both parts of the field during his round of batting practice. Reached a good exit velocity of 92 mph and ran a 4.53 out of the batter's box to first base.

Ryan Christy, fieldingDate: 2/16/15
Scouting Report: 5-foot-11, 150-pound athletic frame. In the infield he has a tendency to stop his feet when ground balls are hit at him and he would benefit if he would keep his feet moving through the baseball as he does when he moves laterally for it. Throws using a clean arm action through a ¾ slot reaching a top velocity of 78 mph on his throws. Right-handed hitter that starts open and gets to even. Shows a good load and stays back over his back leg. Showed some swat in his bat with 85 mph exit velocity and ran 7.31-60. On the mound he has a slow tempo delivery and lands slightly closed. From a loose, ¾ slot his fastball sat 76-79 mph with occasional sink. Has good spin on his breaking ball at 65-67 mph with 10/4 tilt. Showcased a knuckleball for his changeup at 61-63 mph with good life.

Thoughts on being selected to play in PBR's Future Games and representing the great state of Ohio: "I’m very honored and excited to be given the opportunity to represent team Ohio in the Future Games."

How has PBR helped as far as recruiting and exposure: "It gives me an opportunity to get recognized by many more schools who might not even know who I am."

Athletic awards or academic accolades that you have received (All-State teams, Preseason all-state teams, league honors, honor roll, etc): "I was voted NOC honorable mention sophomore year."

2015 Statistics: Finished Spring ball with a .373 Avg

What other sports do you play, describe (positions, years varsity, achievements, stats): "I played football and got honorable mention my sophomore year as a wide out and kick returner."

GPA/ACT/SAT: 3.0

Fun Fact (Anything unique about yourself): "In my free time I like to fish."
