With 2021 now in the past, PBR Ohio is eagerly anticipating bringing the Buckeye state the best 2022 high school coverage that can be found anywhere. Starting in January, we began releasing team previews for squads across the state. Ahead, we will have Preseason All-State Teams as well as the Preseason State Rankings coming your way.

2022 Spring Team Preview: Toledo Central Catholic Irish

Team Name: Toledo Central Catholic Irish
Head Coach: Jeff Mielcarek
Division: II
2021 Record: 14-11
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 5/3

2022 Team Strengths:

  • We have good leadership and have a close team bond.
  • Our pitching staff is young however it includes Cody Markus who was our #1 as a Sophomore last year. The pitching staff could develop into a strength as the season goes on

Coach Outlook: "We have some big shoes to replace with the graduation of Wilson Stopera who was the TRAC Player of the Year. He hit .500 and also was the winning pitcher in the District Final. I love the way our returning guys have worked and are excited to compete against a very challenging schedule."

Top Returning Players:

  • Trey Gray, C, 2022, 5-10 / 170 lbs / R/R Trey was All District 2nd Team last year. He is one of our Captains He hit .290 last year and is a two year starter
  • Cody Markus, RHP & IF, 2023 / 6-0 / 190 lbs / R/R Cody was 2nd Team All TRAC last year. He is one of our Captains He pitched 53.1 innings last season with a 2.63 ERA, 57 strikeouts and a 4-2 record
  • Jace Sanchez, OF, 2022, 6-0, 185 lbs / R/R
  • AJ Parker, 2B, 2022, 5-8, 170 lbs, L/R
  • Brayden Tressler, IF/P, 2023, 6-2, 190 lbs, R/R
