After lettering as a freshman at Marysville High School last spring, Jarod Yoakam has made quite an impression on several college coaches.  With a frame of 6’1,175 pounds, the shortstop/pitcher began has definitely got the look of a future Division 1 baseball player.

In July, Yoakam was invited to PBR's Top Prospect Showcase in Dublin. Afterwards, the attention began to grow.  “I felt the Top Prospect Showcase was invaluable and aided me in the recruitment process.  I received numerous letters as a result of attending the showcase."

Later in the summer, he also earned an invitation to the Buckeye Scout as one of the few underclassmen in attendance.

Jarod has already received letters from Kentucky, Michigan, Virginia, Central Michigan, and many others.  “I received a great deal of interest as a result of attending the PBR Showcase from a great number of coaches from all over.”

As a shortstop he shows fluid footwork, but has a tendency to field the ball deep. He uses long arm action to generate a top velocity of 80 mph across the infield to go along with his gap-to-gap power at the plate.

At the plate, the right-handed hitter uses a balanced, athletic setup. He uses a smooth load with an explosive lower half and quick bat speed. He shows gap-to-gap power.

While on the mound, the right-hander has a fastball that has been consistently clocked between 79-82 mph.  His 3/4 arm slot allows him to throw a 70-72 mph changeup that is thrown near fastball arm speed.

Only a sophomore, Jarod is already looking toward the future.  “I am hoping to commit my Junior year.  I would like to play at a D1 school.  I believe that academics and the quality of the program as well as the coaching are all equally important to me and must be taken into account when selecting the school I wish to attend.”

With a 3.6 GPA, hard work is an obvious quality of Yoakam’s.  Jarod states, “I feel that my hard work ethic is one of my strengths.  It is very rare that I haven't either hit or fielded etc. every day year round to make myself better.”

Next summer, Jarod will continue to play for Ohio Elite 16U (Kaltenbach), where they will continue to play in several showcase tournaments.
