Updated Class of 2024 Player Rankings (April)

2022 has given us a little bit more normalcy in life, and the high school baseball scene is no different. We crowned four state champions during the spring and enjoyed a full summer of summer ball with tournaments and showcases throughout the state. We have searched far and wide throughout the state to find the best prospects we can, to help them get to college and to help colleges find prospects that fit their culture.

Many names came off the board to some of the top programs around the nation, many new names came to the forefront of the recruiting scene, and many prospects improved their game.

That being said, we have had the pleasure of seeing a number of solid players this past year. Prospects are popping up left and right, making velocity jumps, improving 60-yard dash times and showing more power with the bat.

Below we will take a look at "The Risers”, “The Newcomers", "Throwing Gas", "Top Hit Tools", "He Can Pick It", "Pitchability" and some of the top uncommitted prospects by position.

Risers

Carson Rhodes RHP / 2B / Salem, OH / 2024

Report: The most electric bullpen we saw from the winter came from Virginia Tech commit Carson Rhodes (Salem HS). Not only did the FB touch 93mph but the secondary was equally as impressive, showing two potential plus breaking balls and a more than serviceable changeup. Analytically all four pitches measure off the charts. The showing was good enough to take him from an already Top 10 prospect, up to No. 3.

Jon Wylie SS / RHP / Ironton, OH / 2024

Report: Just a guess…..but after last Saturday’s start at our Spring Classic, uncommitted RHP Jon Wylie (Ironton HS) is going to be one of the state’s top viewed profiles this week and for good reason. Wylie was dominant, against a quality lineup. FB peaked at 91mph and he held 86-89mph into the 5th inning. On top of the velo he also showed a hammer, near 12/6 breaking ball in the upper 70s. For our money you’re looking at a Power 5 prospect here.

Michael Ciavolella OF / 1B / Archbishop Hoban, OH / 2024

Report: Showcases tell you a lot, scouts get an idea of tools/what a player is physically capable of. However, those tools have to translate to game and a prospect that will look good in a showcase but give you a full picture of what he is in game is Hoban OF Michael Ciavolella. We’ve been able to get eyes on him multiple times this spring and he’s left little doubt he’s one of the top uncommitted guys in the state. His ability to handle at bats and find barrels is near the top of the class.

Newcomers

Aaron England LHP / Fairfield, OH / 2024

Report: Dominant… that’s the only word to describe what uncommitted LHP Aaron England (Fairfield HS) has been this spring. So far the sophomore has 56ks and 28 IP and an ERA just north of 1.0. Not surprising considering the southpaw can run it up to 88mph, has sharp secondary and has shown the ability to be in the zone with a WHIP of 0.78. A slam dunk D1 arm that will be one of the hottest names on the recruiting circuit.

AJ Pierson RHP / 3B / Canton South, OH / 2024

Report: PPA is a hot bed for developing college arms and one of the highest upside ones coming through the building is RHP AJ Pierson (Canton South). The 6-foot-3, RHP is all limbs, has a FB that can reach into the upper 80s with more than playable secondary. The type of arm that will only continue to get better as he gets in the weight room.

Conlan Daniel OF / RHP / Moeller, OH / 2024

Report: A newcomer to the ‘24 class but was already in the rankings…but in the ‘23 class. OF Conlan Daniel (Moeller HS) was a young ‘23 that has made the move into the sophomore class. A multifaceted prospect that can do a ton of things well on the baseball field. A 6.6 runner, w/run producer potential in the box that can also run it up to 87mph on the mound. Very cerebral player who is a son of a coach as well, so not only are there tools but he knows how to translate them into game.

He’s Going To Throw Gas

Hayden Blosser SS / RHP / Avon Lake, OH / 2024

Report: If a scout was giving a powerpoint on an arm that was going to throw harder they would show the video of RHP Hayden Blosser (Avon Lake HS). Premium athlete (6.6 runner), loose/fast arm/on-time arm, and endless projection left on frame. In layman's terms- this dude already throws 88mph, moves extremely well, has top end athleticism, and at just 165-pounds if he takes the weight room seriously the sky's the limit for what the radar gun will say someday.

Mitchell Davis RHP / OF / Sidney High School, OH / 2024

Report: Another guy we expect to light up the radar gun before it’s all said and done is RHP Mitchell Davis (Sidney HS). The 6-foot-4, multi-sport athlete has been a name on this list since it’s inception a few years back for his top of the class upside. Already showing the ability to run it into the upper 80s, he will continue to climb velocity wise as he fills out/grows into frame. Also pitchability has taken a big step forward this spring. A name scouts will be monitoring closely.

Billy Bourk RHP / 1B / Lima Central Catholic, OH / 2024

Report: With the first two-names you get the theme here: size, athleticism, quality movement patterns...another guy who has all three of these is RHP Billy Bourk (Lima Central Catholic). Similar to Davis, he’s a 6-foot-4, multi-sport athlete who has shown the ability to already generate impressive velo but the best is yet to come. We saw him at the Bo Jackson Elite scout day not only show velo, but impressive control over the secondary arsenal. He’s another arm it isn’t hard to see being 90+ once it all comes together.

Top Hit Tools Available

Logan Fyffe 2B / SS / Kenton Ridge, OH / 2024

Report: Here’s a bat to buy stock in early, UTL Logan Fyffe (Kenton Ridge). We got a chance to catch a workout from him in the winter and the young righty oozes feel in the box. Reminds us of Wright State commit, Patrick Fultz but from the right side. Although the tools are above average what separates him is the ability to find the barrel. It should come as no surprise that as a sophomore he’s leading his team in BA, OBP, and RBI.

Bryan McAnally 3B / 3B / Newark Catholic, OH / 2024

Report: 3B/OF Bryan McAnally (Newark Catholic) can swing it with the best of them. Very fluid, efficient from foot up to to contact in his sequence makes his swing repeatable, and the above average natural tools make it explosive. Wei’ve seen several at bats from the righty and all he does is bang.

Hanleigh Lopez 3B / SS / Moeller, OH / 2024

Report: It was only a BP session, but boy was it impressive. CIF Hanleigh Lopez (Moeller) offers several uncoachable traits in the box. For starters he’s 6-foot-4, 230-pounds and his advanced strength/bat speed combination allow for effortless juice in the box. This name may be new to college coaches considering he’s recently moved to the state of Ohio.

He Can Pick It

Parker McDaniels C / RHP / Olentangy Berlin, OH / 2024

Report: When it comes to the catcher position, few uncommitted prospects do it better than Parker McDaniels (Olentangy Berlin). Well versed at the position, can block and receive with the best of them, and we’ve seen him catch/throw at a clip near the top of his class. The bat continues to come around where you could see him being a middle guy at the next level but his ability to patrol the catcher position is what makes him a D1 guy at the next level.

Alex Koelling SS / OF / Mason, OH / 2024

Report: It’s hard to crack the Mason lineup period, but to do it as a sophomore makes it even more impressive. MIF Alex Koelling is a versatile prospect that doesn’t have a glaring flaw in his game. He has an aesthetically pleasing swing from the left side and a glove that plays up the middle at the next level. Left-handed hitting middle infielders are always coveted by college coaches and this is one of the better ones in that class. He could have made this list under several categories…simply put the kid can play.

Brady Marshall C / SS / Orrville, OH / 2024

Report: Being a son of a coach, and a brother of a prospect who earned a scholarship to play at the next level are quality bloodlines that UTL Brady Marshall possess aside from the obvious tools he personally can put on display. Brady is a very athletic backstop primarily that can do things most can’t at his age behind the dish. Also can take the big glove off and hop out in the middle of the infield and pick it with the best of them. Not only is he going to keep runs off the board but he’s also a quality barrel finder in the box. Another guy who will only improve as he adds strength.

Pitchability

Brady Sasse RHP / North Royalton, OH / 2024

Report: Watching RHP Brady Sasse (North Royalton HS) is like watching poetry in motion. Very fluid delivery that generates some of the easier velocity you’ll see at such a young age / looks like he’s playing catch with mid 80s velocity. The secondary is also above average and he straight up dotted the zone in his bullpen at the T3 Warhawks Scout Day. D1 arm.

Christopher (CJ) Boudreaux RHP / 1B / Oregon Clay, OH / 2024

Report: Another guy who could have landed in multiple categories here is RHP CJ Boudreaux (Oregon Clay HS). His start at our Spring Classic this spring was one of the more impressive in-game performances we’ve seen in 2022. A good athlete, competitive, and fills up the zone with several quality offerings. T87 w/signs of more to come and the type of guy you want out there in big moments.

Luke Reasor LHP / 1B / Brecksville-Broadview Heights, OH / 2024

Report: Another southpaw college coaches will be interested in early in the recruiting process is Luke Reasor (Brecksville Broadview Heights). Currently 80-84, but the radar gun will look much different over the upcoming years as he fills out his 6-foot-2 frame. Easy velo, and impressive command of the secondary are also pluses when evaluating the young left-hander.
