UNIONTOWN - There were two important things Noah Kubasky wanted when he returned to the recruiting process.

“I wanted to play right away and continue to be a two-way,” related the Uniontown Lake senior.

The sixth-rated 2025 left-handed pitcher in Ohio, who decommitted from Kansas State, believes that will be the case at UNLV.

“I got a call from Kansas State a couple of months ago,” Kubasky reflected. “They called me and a couple of others and said they over recruited in the portal and didn’t have spots for high schoolers, so I had to restart my recruitment. At first it was, wow! But then it’s you’ve got to get back to work. You’ve got to find a home quickly.”

Getting interest was not difficult for the 6-4 195-pounder.

“The first day I decommitted I had 45 calls,” Kubasky noted. “The first time I went through the process I wasn’t recruited by JUCO and mid-majors, but this time I was recruited by everybody.”

But it was at UNLV where the 27th-ranked junior in Ohio found coaches he got along with the best.

“I went on a visit to UNLV during Christmas break,” Kubasky explained. “It was definitely different from Ohio. I loved the staff there and feel it’s the best place for me to succeed and get on the field.

“They offered before the visit, but I got it in writing when I was there. I took four or five other visits trying to take my time, but I didn’t want to be uncommitted for long. UNLV was my last visit. I’d been talking with the coach there for a while and felt it was the best relationship I had.”

The pitching side of things stood out for Kubasky, a left-handed first baseman with the potential to play outfield when not on the mound.

“The pitching coach is in his first year there and he’s from the midwest,” Kubasky said. “He showed proof every one of his players is up two miles an hour, some 6-8 miles an hour just in the fall.”

UNLV likes the possibilities displayed by the 18-year-old.

“They said I stood out, there’s talent there,” Kubasky related. “I’m long levered with a lot of room to grow in my body frame and they like that I have good arm speed. I have the things they said were unteachable and that they could build on the other things.”

A 230-pounder a year ago, Kubasky did not play football this past season, a sport he was a standout quarterback.

“After summer ball season I wanted to be stronger and faster, take my body to the next level,” Kubasky explained. “I couldn’t do it at that weight. I didn’t eat as much and worked out. I’m 195 now. I wasn’t planning on losing that much.

“But efficiency on the mound with everything now is easier. I’m running better, getting through the zone faster, I’m quicker on the bases.”

Kubasky pointed to the Future Games as a key component in getting his name out there across the nation.

“Every coach in the country was there,” Kubasky reflected. “That event pushed coaches to talk to me, that started everything. After I committed and then decommitted, I was wanted. The big thing then was how did I fit into their program.”

Kubasky is confident he will fit in just fine at the Mountain West Conference university in Las Vegas.

“I think I can make an impact right away,” Kubasky said. “I feel I’m a very underrated hitter and think I’ll be able to show it right away.”

Something in the business field, likely finance, will be the college major for Kubasky, a 3.4 student ready for what lies ahead just seven months from now.

“I’m happy and blessed another opportunity came along,” Kubasky concluded. “It will definitely be intriguing going out to Vegas. I’m still a kid and it’s a different lifestyle, a faster life. It’s beautiful there, I love the weather. I’m just looking to be myself and handle my business.”
