Grant Lashutka RHP / SS / St. Edward, OH / 2026Rankings StateRank: 22 / POS: 9
FAIRVIEW PARK - Grant Lashutka is in no hurry to make a college decision. “I’ve taken no visits yet,” the St. Edward High School junior said. “I want to see what all my options are and not rush into a commitment yet.” The potential schools are adding up, however, with Wright State, Lehigh, Eastern Michigan, Ohio University and Florida Southern among the colleges the ninth-rated 2026 right-handed pitcher in Ohio has had phone calls with up until this point in time. “I’ve also received emails saying they saw me at the Future Games and want me to come to a prospect camp from all over, places like Alabama and West Virginia,” Lashutka noted. While interest in the recently-turned 17-year-old was revealed on Aug. 1, the initial day college coaches could make contact with players in the 2026 class, the days leading up to it were a bit nerve-wracking. “I was pretty stressed out,” Lashutka admitted. “With no confirmation that anybody was going to be reaching out, I was thinking …what if nobody contacts me.” The 22nd-ranked junior in the state pointed to a Prep Baseball event with playing a key role in colleges finding out about his abilities on the ball diamond. “Going to the Future Games definitely helped out,” Lashutka related. “It put me in front of basically every coach in the country, so that really helped. Some coaches also said they’ve been following me off of summer baseball with Release.” For those intrigued, the hard-throwing 6-2 201-pounder is working hard on improving his game. “I’ve been focusing on getting bigger, stronger, faster,” Lashutka explained. “I thought I was a little too skinny with my build so I’ve been doing a program to help with my pitching mechanics and just being more athletic.” It has him hoping to catch more eyes in the near future. “I’m someone who will fill up the zone,” Lashutka said. “I’m never scared of a hitter. I will always attack them. If they get a hit, no problem. I’ll move on to the next batter.” The recruiting process has not been much of a surprise thus far. “It’s been kind of what I thought it would be,” Lashutka noted. “My brother went through it, but it has changed a little since then.” A 2020 graduate of St. Ignatius, Luke Lashutka was selected by the Marlins in the 2024 draft after pitching for one year at St. Bonaventure and three at Saint Leo, where he earned All-American honors his senior year. “His advice for me is to just keep working and keep in contact with them,” Lashutka said. The hope is to be able to be as successful as his brother. “Since I was a kid and started playing baseball I’ve wanted to play college baseball and then play pro,” Lashutka explained. “I want to follow my brother.” Kyle Weldon, Prep Baseball Ohio Director of Scouting, believes the St. Edward junior has a big future ahead of him. “Grant is a talented two-way who has an aggressive approach at the plate with power to the pull side,” Weldon said. “He’s advanced in the infield, has rhythmic footwork, sure hands, and a quick exchange. He fields the ball out front with athletic movement laterally. Grant showed well at the Future Games and has drawn some interest.” As for what lies ahead, Lashutka is taking his time. “I plan to contact coaches and tell them what I’m doing,” Lashutka explained. “Maybe I’ll take a couple of visits in a few months, but I don’t want to rush it. I want to see what’s the best fit for me. “It will probably be the end of the summer season before I commit. I want to let coaches come and see how I throw.” |
