Look out for Lauer

Lauer, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound left-handed pitcher, is currently ranked as the fifteenth ranked prospect in the Class of 2013.
As an underclassmen, Lauer impressed at several showcases this summer with an 85-87 mph fastball, 73-75 mph curveball, and a 75-77 mph changeup.
Reflecting on his skills, Lauer said, “My ability to spot my pitches and stay focused on what's in front of me is my biggest strength.”
However, he knows he has room for improvement. “All areas of my pitching have room to improve. This year I would like to add another pitch, maybe a slider or cutter.”
With football season upon him, Lauer is not playing fall ball. However, he will be participating in a couple showcases and college camps.
At this point in time, his schedule has been limited, “I am playing football this fall and getting loads of homework, so I haven’t had much time to respond or fill out questionnaires.”
Still, he has been on one unofficial visit and plans to visit a few more schools this fall as long as his schedule permits.
As he begins to create a list of potential fits for the next stage of his baseball career, Lauer is focusing on schools with “academic programs that fit my needs and a good baseball program with a winning tradition.”
Next summer, Lauer will be playing with the North Coast Gladiators, the same team that he has been playing with for the past seven years. His head coach, Dwayne Callaway, is a former standout at Bowling Green and associate scout for the Cleveland Indians. The roster is full of other talented players from Northeast Ohio, including RHP Brandyn Sittinger (#18 ranked player in Class of 2012), RHP Shawn Reid (2013), catcher Adam Vasil (2013), and IF/RHP Cody Callaway (2014).
