2024 OK Rankings Update

As the fall comes to a close and move into the winter, Prep Baseball Report Oklahoma makes a modest adjustment to the 2024 Class Rankings. Most of the movement comes from guys that showed improving skills in looks that we got from them this Fall with a couple starting to make some pretty strong jumps. We take a closer look into some of the biggest Rankings Risers as well as look at two newcomers to the list in this update. We have three dates on the books for the next couple of months with the Stillwater Preseason ID on December 18th, The OKC Preseason ID on January 29th, and our Preseason All-State Event being held at Oral Roberts University on February 12th.

Ashton Hartwig OF / LHP / Deer Creek, OK / 2024Rankings StateRank: 21 / POS: 2
Hartwig sees a rise in the rankings after he continues to show big jumps throughout his high school career. After spending his sophomore season at Deer Creek driving in runs in the middle of the order, Hartwig continues to see his athleticism rise to match his already proven production at the Varsity level. He also showed some strong abilities on the mound at the Fall Underclass Games where he worked the fastball up to 86 mph from the left side and showed strong feel for shape and spin of the curveball.

Brody Wicker 2B / RHP / Ponca City, OK / 2024Rankings StateRank: 48 / POS: 3
Wicker sees one of the biggest jumps in the class for this rankings update after a very strong performance at the Fall Upperclass Games. The Ponca City native has one of the more physical games in the class with exit velos up to 96 mph and has shown the ability to drive the ball out of the park in games. What really makes him intriguing and one to follow closely might be his work on the mound. Wicker worked the fastball up to 88 mph paired with a hard 76 mph CB that makes him a tough matchup. At 6-foot and 180-pounds, Wicker has the type of build and projectability people look for on either side of the ball.

Bodie Amberson C / SS / Owasso , OK / 2024Rankings StateRank: 42 / POS: 5
Amberson continues to impress including most recently at the OK Fall Upperclass Games sees a big 13 spot rise in the rankings. The Owasso backstop/shortstop is one of the better overall athletes with pop times ranging between 1.88-1.96 and running a sub 7 60. That's not a usual pairing for catchers with that type of throwing ability matched with the speed. Amberson is no slouch with the bat either with a short and compact stroke generating exit velos up to 89 mph. Make sure to keep an eye on Amberson this Spring as he looks to help the Rams repeat as 6A State Champions.

Creed Muirhead C / 2B / Shawnee, OK / 2024Rankings StateRank: 54 / POS: 7
Muirhead has always been known as one of the top defensive catchers in the State and didn't disappoint in the two times we got a chance to see him this fall. The Shawnee backstop sees his stock rise 9 spots in this rankings update after back-to-back weeks popping 1.87 pop times to go along with his already advanced receiving and blocking techniques. What's exciting for Muirhead is the bat is starting to come around and showing more physicality from the left side of the plate. Schools looking for advanced defenders from the catcher position that also hit from the left side should take a closer look here.

Camden Knutson SS / RHP / Tulsa Union, OK / 2024Rankings StateRank: 146 / POS: 22
The Union middle infielder/right-handed pitcher saw the biggest jump in the rankings in this update from number 146 to number 80 thanks in large part to his work on the mound at the OK Fall Underclass Games. In the infield Knutson is a sure-handed defender that can fill in anywhere on the infield and shows some switch-hitting that are starting to improve. Where his biggest impact might be made is on the mound where he pounded the zone with his low 80's fastball with strong spin and feel for sharp 74 mph slider that can chase bats. At 6-foot and 160-pounds, look for Knutson to make big jumps on both sides of the ball as he continues to add strength.

Joshua Klontz 1B / OF / Edmond North, OK / 2024Klontz enters the rankings at number 60 as the top newcomer to this edition to the rankings update. The 6-foot-2 and 170-pound outfielder from Edmond North has one of the more projectable builds and swings from the left side of the plate where he swings with strong leverage generating exit velocities up to 93 mph with consistent hard contact. Although not having the fastest 60 time, Klontz makes up for it in the corner outfield thanks to strong body control and feel for routes to the ball. Look for Klontz to be a potential breakout performer this Spring as he continues to add strength.

Tanner McMurray C / 3B / Bishop Kelley, OK / 2024McMurray got some run on Varsity last Spring for Bishop Kelley as a sophomore and should be primed to take on a larger role in 2023. He enters the rankings list for the first time at number 69 after a strong performance at the OK Fall Upperclass Games that saw him reach back for pop times as low as 1.93 with good arm strength and carry to the bag. He also showed a short and compact stroke with strong extension at the plate shooting line drives all over the field. What is most impressive is he went through the entire workout with a hand injury that has now been repaired and should be ready for a potential breakout spring.
