OK Fall Top Prospect Games: RHP Analysis

PBR OK hosted the fourth annual OK Fall Top Prospect Games at beautiful Central Oklahoma. Over 65 invite-only players showcased their skill in front of the PBR OK staff, 6 colleges and two pro scouts. The talented event saw five sub 7.00 60s, 6 90+ exit velos, 14 infield velos of 80+, four outfield velos of 85+, six sub 2.00 second pop times, and five max fastballs at 85 mph. Players profiles have already been updated with stats and pictures with reports and video to be updated in the weeks to come. The number below do not represent a players all-time best, only what they achieved at this event. Today, we check out the 5 left-handed pitchers from the event.

Garret Baker 1B / RHP / Mustang, OK / 2021

A 6-foot-5, 235-pound durable frame with broad shoulders and present strength. On the mound, the right-hander works from an average tempo delivery with a high up, down, and out leg kick before finishing balanced. Arm action is short and quick in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot with some arm speed. Fastball shows some arm-side run, mostly strikes. Splitter shows some late dive with occasional run or cut at 69 mph. Curveball shows 11/5 shape with some late depth, some strikes at 64-65 mph. In the game, Baker punched out one of the four batters he faced. 


Branden Beaver 1B / RHP / Southmoore , OK / 2021

A very lean and projectable 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame with lots of room to add size and strength. On the mound, the right-hander works from an average tempo delivery with a high coiling leg kick before striding long down the mound and finishing hard to the first base side. Arm action has moderate length in the back, making a clean circle before coming through a high-¾ slot. Fastball shows occasional arm-side run at 78-80 mph, nearly all strikes. Curveball has 10/4 shape at 65-66 mph, some strikes. In the game, Beaver punched out four of the five batters he faced. 


Cal Birchfield SS / RHP / Rattan, OK / 2021

A proportional and athletic 6-foot, 170-pound frame. On the mound, the right-hander works from an average tempo delivery with rhythm and a high leg kick before exploding down the mound with a quick stride, finishing towards the dish. Arm action is quick with moderate length in the back, showing a quick change of direction at the bottom of the arm stroke before coming through a near over the top slot with advanced arm speed. Fastball sits 84-86 mph flashing run at times, nearly all strikes. Curveball shows 12/6 shape with some late depth and tight spin at 70-71 mph thrown with near fastball arm speed.  In the game Birchfield retired three of the four batters he faced, not allowing a hit. 


Jacob Bookout RHP / 1B / Oklahoma Christian School, OK / 2020

A long and projectable 6-foot-6, 205-pound frame with room to add size and strength. On the mound, the right-hander works from a deliberate and smooth delivery with a moderate leg kick before gliding long down the mound and finishing balanced. Arm action is long and almost straight down out of the break before coming through an over the top slot with some looseness and arm speed. Fastball flashes some cut with downhill tilt at 80-83 mph, mostly strikes. Curveball has near 12/6 shape with late depth, a few strikes. In the game Bookout filled up the zone, punching out one of the five batters he faced. 


Laif Bradshaw RHP / 1B / Southmoore, OK / 2021

A broad shouldered 6-foot-1, 170-pound frame with long legs. On the mound, the right-hander works from an average tempo delivery with an up, down, and out leg kick before gliding to the dish and finishing balanced. Arm action is long and controlled in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot. Fastball sits 77-78 mph with some cut and some strikes. Curveball shows rolling action with 11/5 shape at 65-71 mph. In the game, Bradshaw punched out two fo the six batters he faced. 


Hunter Brown C / 1B / Yukon , OK / 2020

A square shouldered 6-foot, 165-pound frame with some present strength. On the mound, the right-hander works from an average tempo and simple delivery with a moderate leg kick before gliding down the mound and finishing slightly to the first base side. Arm action is long, loose, and fluid in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot with little effort. Fastball keeps its plane at 79-81 mph, mostly strikes. In the game, Brown retired three of the four batters he faced, including inducing a double play ground ball.   


Hayden Brunson RHP / Collinsville, OK / 2020

A proportional 5-foot-11, 175-pound frame. On the mound, the right-hander works from a smooth and average tempo delivery with a high leg kick before gliding down the mound and finishing balanced. Arm action is long in the back before pulling through a high-¾ slot. Fastball flashes cut at 72-74 mph, some strikes. Curveball shows consistent 1//5 shape with some depth at 59-62 mph, mostly strikes. In the game, Brunson punched out four of the eight batters he faced. 


Jack Bucholz RHP / OF / Norman North , OK / 2022

A lean and athletic 5-foot-11, 150-pound frame with room to fill out. On the mound, the right-hander works from the stretch with a smooth and moderate leg kick before gliding down the mound and finishing towards the plate. Arm action is short in the back before coming through a high-¾ arm slot with some arm speed. Fastball sits 81-83 mph with some arm-side run, nearly all strikes. Curveball is advanced with tight spin, late depth, and 11/5 shape at 69-70 mph, nearly all strikes. Changeup shows some late fade, thrown with fastball arm speed at 74-75 mph, some strikes. In the game, Bucholz punched out six of the eight batters he faced, only allowing two infield hits. 


Connor Ellis RHP / OF / Yukon, OK / 2022

A lean 5-foot-11, 160-pound frame with room to add size and strength. On the mound, the right-hander works from an average tempo delivery with a high leg kick before driving to the dish and finishing slightly to the first base side. Arm action has moderate length in the back with a quick change of direction in the back before coming through an over the top slot. Fastball flashes some cut at 77-80 mph, some strikes. Curveball has 12/6 shape at 59-62 mph with rolling shape, some strikes. In the game, Ellis punched out four of the ten batters he faced. 


Braydyn Escarcega SS / RHP / Allen, OK / 2020

The recent dodge city commit shows an athletic 6-foot, 175-pound frame. On the mound, the right-hander works from a controlled and deliberate delivery with rhythm and a high, coiling, leg kick before striding to the dish and finishing to the first base side. Arm action has moderate length in the back with a quick change of direction at the bottom of the arm stroke before coming through an over the top slot. Fastball sits 82-83 mph with consistent heavy cut, mostly strikes. Slider is still developing, spinning out at times at 65 mph. In the game, Escarcega punched out three of the four batters he faced.


Dagan Hembree C / 2B / Westville , OK / 2018

A lean 6-foot, 160-pound frame. On the mound, the right-hander works from a simple and average tempo delivery with a high leg kick before driving to the dish and finishing to the first base side. Arm action is short and fast in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot. Fastball sits 78-80 mph with some arm-side run, mostly strikes. Curveball shows 11/5 shape with consistent depth at 63-64 mph. In the game, Hembree did not allow a walk and only allowed one hit in his four batters.  


Caiden Henderson RHP / OF / Sapulpa, OK / 2020

A a proportional 5-foot-11, 175-pound frame with broad shoulders. On the mound, the right-hander works only from the stretch with an up, down, and out leg kick before gliding down the mound and finishing to the first base side. Arm action is long, fluid, and smooth in the back before coming through a ¾ slot. Fastball shows occasional arm-side run at 76-79 mph, mostly strikes. Cutter shows East-West slider type action at 61-62 mph, some strikes. Changeup shows occasional fade at 66-67 mph, some strikes. Curveball shows near 12/6 shape at 60-61 with rolling action, some strikes. In the game, Henderson did not allow a hit, striking out two. 


John Jardine RHP / OF / Edmond Santa Fe, OK / 2022

A very lean and projectable 6-foot-2, 175-pound frame with long legs. On the mound, the right-hander works only from the stretch with a moderate leg kick before gliding down the mound and finishing balanced. Arm action is long and loose in the back before coming through a near over the top slot. Fastball sits 76-80 with run to the glove side and occasional cut to the glove side, some strikes late. Chageup shows some late cut at 69-70 mph, few strikes. Slider shows 10/4 shape with some late sweeping action at 64-65 mph. In the game, Jardine locked into the zone at the end of his second inning of work retiring the last three batters he faced punching out two of them.


Hunter Jones C / RHP / Norman North, OK / 2021

A durable and broad shouldered 6-foot, 195-pound frame with some present strength. On the mound, the right-hander works from a simple and slightly up-tempo delivery with some rhythm and a moderate leg kick before gliding down the mound and finishing balanced. Arm action has moderate length in the back making a fluid circle before coming through a high-¾ slot with some arm speed. Fastball sits 77-80 mph with cut, nearly all strikes. Curveball has 11/5 shape with rolling action at 65-69 mph. In the game, Jones punched out three of the five batters he faced, allowing just one hit. 


Jack Jones RHP / C / Bishop Kelley, OK / 2020

A lean 5-foot-9, 155-pound frame with wiry strength and room to add more. On the mound, the right-hander works from a fluid and average tempo delivery with rhythm that he repeats well. Uses a smooth up, down, and out leg kick before striding down the mound and finishing towards the first base side. Arm action is long and controlled in back before coming through an over the top slot  with advanced arm-speed. Fastball keeps its plane at 82-84 mph touching 85, mostly strikes. Curveball shows 11/5 shape with tight spin and late depth at 71-74 mph, mostly strikes. In the game, Jones took a batter to find his timing then punched out three in a row. 


Caleb Kalcich RHP / 1B / Heritage Hall , OK / 2022

A durable 6-foot-1, 224-pound frame with some present strength. On the mound, the right-hander works from an average tempo delivery with some rhythm and a moderate up, down, and out leg kick before finishing balanced. Arm action is controlled in the back with moderate length before coming through an over the top slot. Fastball flashed some cut at 75-76 mph, mostly strikes. Curveball sat 59-60 with 11/5 rolling action, mostly strikes. In the game, Kalcich punched out two of the four batters he faced, allowing only one hit.  

 

Garrett McDown RHP / OF / Westmoore High School, OK / 2021

A lean 5-foot-11, 155-pound lean frame with lots of room to add size and strength. On the mound, the right-hander works from a controlled and deliberate delivery with a moderate leg kick before gliding down the mound and finishing balanced. Arm action is long and sweeping in the back before pulling through a high-¾ slot. Fastball shows consistent and hard cut at 76-78 mph, nearly all strikes. Curveball shows consistent depth at 68-69 mph with 11/5 shape and rolling action, nearly all strikes. In the game McDown threw almost all strikes and punched out two of the five batters he faced. 


Brennan Morgan 3B / RHP / Marlow , OK / 2022

A 6-foot-1, 210-pound durable and barrel chested frame with strength throughout. On the mound, the right-hander works from an average tempo delivery with a slight pause during the rocker step before a high coiling leg kick and long stride down the mound, finishing hard to the first base side. Arm action is very short and fast with a quick change of direction at the bottom of the arm stroke before coming through a near over the top slot with advanced arm speed and a recoil finish. Fastball shows downhill tilt with some deception at 83-85 mph, some strikes. Curveball has 10/4 shape with tight spin thrown with full arm speed, flashing some late depth at 72-74 mph, some strikes. In the game punched out two and allowed two infield hits in the seven batters he faced. 

 

Tyler O'Brien RHP / 3B / Bridge Creek, OK / 2021

A very lean and projectable 6-foot-2, 155-pound frame with long legs. On the mound, the right-hander works from a slightly up-tempo delivery with a moderate leg kick before sinking into his backside and striding to the dish before pitching over hit front side and finishing to the dish. Arm action is moderate, quick, and fluid in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot. Fastball keeps its plain at 74-78 mph, mostly strikes late. Changeup sits 69-70 mph with some fade. In the game, after getting into rhythm, O’Brien punched out three of the last four batters he faced. 


Eli Ramirez SS / RHP / Duncan , OK / 2024

A developing 5-foot-4, 120-pound athletic frame. On the mound, the right-hander works from an athletic and average tempo delivery with a high leg kick before striding down the mound and finishing balanced. Arm action has moderate length in the back dropping straight down before coming through a near over the top slot with above average arm speed for his age. Fastball keeps its plane at 72-75 mph, nearly all strikes. Changeup shows some fade at 67-68 mph, some strikes. In the game, Ramirez pounded the zone with his fastball. 


Sawyer Reddick 3B / OF / Silo, OK / 2023

A developing 5-foot-8, 135-pound frame. On the mound, the right-hander works only from the stretch with an athletic and high up, down, and out leg kick before striding down the mound and finishing balanced. Arm action is very long and loose in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot. Fastball keeps its plane at 68-69 mph, nearly all strikes. Curveball shows slurvy 11/5 shape and rolling action at 56-57 mph. In the game, Reddick filled up the strike zone, retiring three of the four batters he faced, allowing one hit. 


Brody Rexroad C / 3B / Mustang, OK / 2021

A durable 6-foot-1, 200-pound frame with strength throughout. On the mound, the right-hander works from a simple and average tempo delivery that he repeats well. Uses a moderate leg kick before striding down the mound with quality leg drive and finishing slightly to the first base side. Arm action is long, loose, and quick in the back before coming through an over the top slot with advanced arm speed. Fastball sits 83-85 with run to the arm side and cut to the glove side, nearly all strikes. Curveball shows 11/5 shape with some late depth, thrown with near fastball arm speed at 72-75 mph, nearly all strikes. In the game, Rexroad punched out two of the four batters he faced, not allowing a hit.


Cody Sorrells 3B / RHP / Deer Creek, OK / 2022

A lean and projectable 6-foot-1, 155-pound frame with lots of room to add size and strength. On the mound, the right-hander works from an average tempo delivery with a high and slightly coiling leg kick before striding down the mound and hopping to the finish. Arm action has moderate length in the back making a quick and fluid circle before coming through a high-¾ slot. Fastball sits 75-77 mph with consistent cut, mostly strikes. Curveball has rolling action with 11/5 shape at 66-67 mph, some strikes. In the game, Sorrells retired three of the four batters he faced.


Kaden Wickersham RHP / OF / Southmoore , OK / 2021

A lean and projectable 6-foot-2, 165-pound frame. On the mound, the right-hander works from a deliberate delivery with a controlled high leg kick before driving down the mound and finishing balanced. Arm action is long, loose, fluid and quick in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot with well above average arm speed. Fastball sits 82-85 mph (mostly 85s)  with consistent run and sink, some strikes. Curveball is still developing, spinning out at times at 69-70 mph, flashing 11/5 shape. In the game, Wickersham got into his rhythm after a few batters and got weak contact out of the last few hitters he faced. 


Brand Wilson C / RHP / Lookeba Sickles , OK / 2023

An advanced 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame with some strength. On the mound, the right-hander works from a slightly up-tempo delivery with some rhythm and a high leg swing gate late kick before striding slightly open down the mound and finishing balanced. Arm action is that of a catcher (Wilson’s primary position) very short coming through an over the top slot. Fastball keeps its plane at 76-77 mph, nearly all strikes. Curveball shows 11/5 action with some late depth at 67-69 mph. In the game, Wilson induced weak contact on the ground, getting three ground balls and a single. 


Nate Windle 3B / C / Tuttle , OK / 2021

A lean 5-foot-11, 165-pound frame with wiry strength and room to add more. On the mound, the right-hander works from a slightly up-tempo delivery with a high leg kick before gliding down the mound and finishing slightly to the first base side. Arm action is long and loose in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot. Fastball sits 79-80 with consistent arm-side run, mostly strikes. Slider has 10/4 shape with slurvy action at 70-71 mph, some strikes. In the game, punched out two of the four batters he faced.  


Zack Wright 3B / RHP / Owasso, OK / 2020

A proportional 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame. On the mound, the right-hander works only from the stretch with almost no leg kick before gliding down the mound and finishing slightly closed. Arm action is smooth in the back before coming through a ¾ slot with very little effort. Fastball keeps its plane at 80-82 mph, found a few strikes late. Curveball shows 11/5 shape with rolling action at 71-72 mph. Changeup keeps its plane at 73-74 mph.
