OK Fall Underclass Prospect Games: Third Baseman Analysis

PBR OK hosted the fourth annual OK Fall Underclass Prospect Games at beautiful Oral Roberts University. Nearly 75 invite-only players showcased their skill in front of the PBR OK staff and ORU staff. The talented event saw five sub 7.00 60s, 6 90+ exit velos, 6 infield velos of 80+, 5 outfield velos of 85+, 5 sub 2.00 second pop times, and 5 max fastballs at 85 mph. Today, we take an in-depth look at the nine third basemen from the event, below.

Carson Benge 3B / SS / Yukon, OK / 2021

 A 6-foot-2, 160-pound lean and athletic frame; 3B/SS. During batting practice, the left-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 91 mph, showing his ability to drive the ball with power. Started in an open a tall stance with a smooth load, then used a leg kick before his swing. Displayed a slightly upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. Bat path showed a middle to pull side approach along with displaying an easy effort swing. In BP, found nearly all barrels.  In the infield, showed his ability to throw 84 mph across the diamond; displayed sure hands, quick footwork and a clean exchange. Showing consistent accuracy to the bases, he used a loose arm action and a ¾ slot. In the 60-yard dash, his time was 7.14.

Parker Casselberry RHP / 3B / Jenks, OK / 2021

A 6-foot, 175-pound proportional frame; RHP/3B. At the plate, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 80 mph. Started in a crouched stance, had a smooth load and used a short stride Displays a level swing plane, quick bat speed and a low finish. In BP, shows a pull and flat approach finding some barrels.In the infield, displayed a velocity of 79 mph across the field; had sure hands and a clean exchange. Had a compact arm action and a high ¾ slot with consistent accuracy to the bag. He clocked a time of 7.89 in the 60-yard dash. 

Brigham Evans RHP / 3B / Heritage Hall, OK / 2022

A 6-foot-2, 187-pound; RHP/3B. At the plate, the right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 80 mph. Starts in a tall stance with a wrapping load, then uses a short stride just before his swing. Uses a flat swing plane, and his bat speed is quick. In BP, shows a middle to opposite field approach with some lift and shows barrels late in his round. While in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 80 mph; had a quick exchange, quick feet and soft hands. Showing consistent accuracy to the bases, he used a ¾ slot with a compact arm action. He recorded a 60 time of 7.13 at the event.

Daxton Hembree 3B / RHP / Westville, OK / 2022

A 6-foot, 160-pound; 3B/RHP. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 76 mph. Began in a tall stance with a choppy load, then used a toe tap before his swing. Had above average bat speed and a level swing plane, and he ended his swing with a high finish. In BP, shows a pull gap approach with some lift and some barrels. While in the infield, showed ability to throw up to 74 mph across the field; displayed soft hands, quick feet and a developing exchange. Showed consistent accuracy to the base with a long arm action and a ¾ slot. In the 60-yard dash, he recorded a time of 7.34. 

Nash Hunter 3B / 1B / Woodward, OK / 2022

A 5-foot-9, 225-pound sturdy frame; 3B/1B. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 85 mph. Started in an open a tall  stance, had a smooth load and used a short stride right before his swing. Had a straight-to-the-ball swing plane, quick bat speed and a high finish. In BP, shows a middle to pull and mostly flat approach with nearly all barrels. While in the infield, showed ability to throw up to 72 mph across the field; had a clean exchange, quick feet and soft hands. Used a high ¾ slot and a loose arm action while showing consistent accuracy to the base. During the event, he ran the 60-yard dash in 7.82. 

Mikey Lunsford 3B / RHP / Carl Albert, OK / 2021

 A 6-foot-2, 200-pound mature frame with strength throughout; 3B/RHP. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter displayed an exit velocity of 89 mph, showing his strength and power ability. Begins in an open stance, has a small load and uses a toe tap. Exhibits a level swing plane and quick bat speed, and he ends his swing with a high finish. In BP, shows a middle to pull approach with lift, mostly barrels. While in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 79 mph; displayed a clean exchange and soft hands. Used a loose arm action and a high ¾ slot while showing consistent accuracy to the bag. He clocked a 60 time of 7.57 .

Colby Mann RHP / 3B / Moore, OK / 2023

A 5-foot-10, 174-pound athletic frame; RHP/3B. At the plate, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 81 mph. Starts in an open stance with a smooth load, then uses a long stride right before his swing. Exhibits bat speed and an upward swing plane, and he ends his swing with good extension on his finish. In BP, shows a pull approach with lift and some barrels. In the infield, displayed a velocity of 77 mph across the field; displayed a fluid exchange, consistent hands and quick feet. Showed a side slot and a long arm action with consistent accuracy to the bag. He clocked a time of 7.63 in the 60-yard dash. 

Alex Morgan 3B / RHP / Harrah, OK / 2022

A 5-foot-9, 195-pound sturdy frame; 3B/RHP. During batting practice, the right-handed hitters best exit velocity was 79 mph. Began in a wide a tall  stance with a small load, then used a short stride before his swing. Bat speed was quick, showed a flat swing plane and a level finish. In BP, shows a middle to pull approach with mostly barrels. In the infield, displayed a velocity of 73 mph across the field; showed soft hands, a fluid exchange and quick feet. Using a short arm action, he showed consistent accuracy to the base from a high ¾ slot. He clocked a time of 7.95 in the 60-yard dash. 

Nicholas Noble 3B / RHP / Edmond Santa Fe, OK / 2022

A 5-foot-10, 150-pound slim frame; 3B/RHP. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 77 mph. Begins in an open a tall  stance, has a small load and uses a leg kick to start his swing. Had some bat speed, as well as a flat swing plane and a high finish. In BP, shows a flat and middle to opposite field approach with some barrels. In the infield, showed an ability to throw across the field at 72 mph; hands were hard and his feet were developing. From a high ¾ slot, he showed consistent accuracy to the base with a loose arm action. During the event, he clocked a 60 time of 7.97.
