OK Junior Future Games Trials: Shortstop Analysis

The second annual OK Junior Future Games Trials was held at the  state of the art 20,000 square ft, Wold Baseball Outreach indoor facility.  This one day event featured many of the top prospects in the 2023 and 2024 classes from around the state showcasing their skills in front of PBR staff. 

This talented event saw impressive numbers in every category, including 6 sub 7.1 60s, ten 81+ exit velos, five arms that were 79+ across the infield, six arms that were 80+ from the outfield, two sub two second pop times, and five pitchers that were 80+.

Today, we take an in-depth look at the shortstops who upgraded their profile from the event. 

Drew Adcock SS / RHP / Oklahoma Christian School, OK / 2023

A 5-foot-11 165-pound frame. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a slightly open stance. Uses a toe tap while hands load efficiently before sending hands on a flat path through the zone. In BP, shows a flat/group and opposite field approach with occasional lift, some barrels, 80 mph exit velo.  Runs a 7.34 60. Defensively, shows developing actions with developing hands and  feet. Throws with a long arm stroke coming through a high 3/4 slot with accuracy at 69 mph.

Camden Bates SS / 2B / Washington , OK / 2023

A 5-foot-7, 135-pound athletic and developing frame. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a balanced stance with some rhythm in the hands. Uses a rock back load before launching hands on an efficient and slightly uphill path. In BP, shows a pull gap approach with some lift, nearly all barrels with some pop, 80 mph exit velo.  Runs a 7.48 60. Defensively, shows confident actions with smooth hands and controlled feet. Throws with a moderate arm stroke coming through a high 3/4 slot with above average accuracy at 77 mph.

Seth Carlson SS / RHP / Chisholm, OK / 2024

A 5-foot-8, 135-pound frame. Offensively from both sides of the plate, the switch hitter bats from a wide stance with most weight on his back side. Uses a short leg kick replacing the front foot before throwing his hands on a mostly flat path through the ball. In BP, shows a middle to pull and flat approach from both sides with slightly more barrels from the left-side, 80 mph exit velo.  Runs a 7.03 60. Defensively, shows above average actions with clean hands and confident footwork. Throws with a moderate arm stroke coming through a 3/4 slot with average accuracy at 68 mph.

Dawson Carringer SS / OF / Tulsa Union, OK / 2023

A 5-foot-6, 125-pound frame. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a balanced stance. Uses a short stride moving his front foot forward as he quickly loads his hands before launching them towards the ball on an uphill path to good extension. In BP, shows a middle to pull and flat approach, some barrels, 73 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.64 60. Defensively, the MIF shows choppy actions with average hands and feet. Throws with a short to long arm stroke, high OT arm slot with accuracy at 64 mph.

Josh Errico SS / 2B / Edmond Memorial , OK / 2023

A 5-foot-7, 130-pound frame. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from an athletic setup, using a quiet and balanced lower half. Uses a quiet toe tap to start and load, hands and barrel stay in neutral position off the shoulder. Hands work short to the baseball with a negative attack angle through the baseball. Short extension through the hitting zone. In BP, shows a middle to opposite field and flat approach, almost all barrels, 78 mph exit velo.  Runs with athletic bounce and strides, ran a 7.07 60. Defensively, SS show easy, fluid actions with quiet hands and active feet thru the baseball. Throws with a clean arm stroke, stands tall to throw with easy action, coming from a high 3/4 slot with average carry at 74 mph.

Will Goodwin SS / 2B / Regent Prep, OK / 2023

A 5-foot-6, 130-pound frame. Offensively, the right-handed hitter hits from a short, compact stance. Uses small movement to load and stride, one movement to the baseball. Barrel works flat to and through the hitting zone, small collapse in swing. Aggressive, contact approach. In BP, shows an all fields approach with some lift, some barrels, 76 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.88 60. Defensively, 2B shows choppy actions with average hands to funnel baseball to middle of body. Plays tall to the baseball. Throws with short to long arm stroke, coming from a low ¾ arm slot with average accuracy at 71 mph.

Marlon Moore SS / OF / Canute, OK / 2024

A 5-foot-9, 140-pound frame. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats with an active lower half, creating a wide base to swing. Uses a big leg lift to start and load swing, hands stay connected to the back shoulder, not creating any separation until foot strike. Heavy weight transfer to the front side, creates some bat speed with big movements. Back foot slide to finish, uphill barrel path. In BP shows, 80 mph exit velo.  Runs a 7.45 60. Defensively, raw, athletic framed SS plays with good instincts, hands and feet worked thru the baseball. High front/glove side to throw, throws with a long IF arm stroke coming from a ¾ slot with average accuracy at 72 mph.
