OK Preseason All-State Showcase Analysis: First Basemen

PBR OK hosted the third annual OK Preseason All-State Showcase at the state of the art World Baseball Outreach indoor facility. There were nearly 95 invite-only players showcased their skill in front of the PBR OK staff, 3 colleges and a pro scout. The talented event saw ten sub 7.00 60s, nine 90+ exit velos, 16 infield velos of 80+, four outfield velos of 85+, seven sub 2.00 second pop times, and 23 max fastballs at 80+ mph. Players profiles have been updated with stats, pictures, and video. The number below do not represent a players all-time best, only what they achieved at this event.

Today, we take an in-depth look at the eight first basemen from the event. 

Colin Fisher LHP / 1B / Noble, OK / 2023

Demonstrated an advanced 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame with physicality and feel for his body. The left-handed hitter begins with an even stance utilizing a knee-knock stride to generate a violent swing on a slightly uphill path through the hitting zone. Displayed present sink into the backside generating barrel whip through contact point creating backspin to both gaps. Registered an 81 mph bat-exit velocity off the tee and ran a 7.31 60-yard dash. The first baseman showcased a low center of gravity with feel around the bag and a soft glove hand out in front. Smooth transfers made it easy for accurate 77 mph throws coming out of a fluid, high ¾ arm-slot across the diamond.

Gage Gilchrist 1B / RHP / Oklahoma Christian , OK / 2022

Demonstrated an advanced, physical 6-foot-2, 210-pound frame with above average feel for his body. The left-handed hitter begins with a closed, wide stance utilizing a leg-kick to initiate his swing. Displayed advanced barrel whip by sinking into a strong lower half generating hip shoulder separation. Barrel moves slightly uphill through the baseball allowing for carry to the deep pull side gap. Showcased solid strength for his age by registering an 87 mph bat-exit velocity off the tee. Ran a 7.70 60-yard dash. The primary first baseman featured adequate footwork with feel around the bag and a soft glove hand out in front. Easy transfers created accurate 76 mph arm-strength out of a high ¾ arm-slot across the diamond. 

Ethan Louthan 1B / RHP / Seiling, OK / 2021

Showcased a large and physical 6-foot-3, 230-pound frame with advanced strength in his actions. The left-handed hitter begins in a tall, even setup utilizing a leg kick to initiate a slightly uphill barrel path through the baseball. Sink into a strong lower half and a dominant top hand created impressive hand speed through the zone. Registered an 88 mph bat-exit velocity off the tee and ran a 7.88 60-yard dash. 

Trevin Pettigrew 1B / LHP / Yukon, OK / 2023

Showcased an advanced 5-foot-11, 215-pound frame with physicality and strength in his actions. The left-handed hitter begins with a slightly open stance utilizing a lift-and-replace stride to initiate a quick barrel through a slightly uphill path in the hitting zone. Generated violent rotation with sink into the hips allowing for advanced hand speed into the zone yielding impressive 91 mph bat-exit velocities. Displayed an overall solid barrel awareness with a strong top hand off the tee. Ran an 8.15 60-yard dash. The primary first baseman showed average footwork with a moderately low center of gravity. Soft hands work well out in front with adequate transfers allowing for accurate 74 mph arm-strength across the infield out of a high ¾ arm-slot. 

A.J. Redman 1B / RHP / Durant, OK / 2020

Showcased a large 6-foot-7, 260-pound frame with advanced physicality and strength in his actions. The right-handed hitter begins with a bent, open stance with weight shifted back slightly utilizing a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Generated advanced barrel whip through the zone while getting slightly over the front side at contact point. Displayed a slightly uphill bat path through the hitting zone allowing for backspin to the pull side gap off the tee. Registered a 90 mph bat-exit velocity and ran an 8.09 60-yard dash. The primary first baseman showed average footwork with some feel around the bag. A high center of gravity created long actions, but a soft glove hand worked well out in front yielding accurate 74 mph arm-strength across the diamond out of a high ¾ arm-slot.

Braedon Sizemore LHP / 1B / Hammon, OK / 2023

Demonstrated a tall and stocky 6-foot, 165-pound frame with some strength in his actions. The left-handed hitter begins with an open, even stance utilizing a knee-knock stride to initiate his swing. Generated a slightly uphill barrel path off the tee with some length to his stroke. Showed a pull-side approach with occasional lift to right-field. Registered a 73 mph bat-exit velocity and ran an 8.03 60-yard dash. The primary first baseman featured adequate feel around the bag with feet that arrived on time. Soft hands played out in front with smooth transfers creating accurate 71 mph arm-strength across the diamond out of a high ¾ arm-slot.

Cade Williamson 1B / 3B / Mustang, OK / 2020

Showcased a large 6-foot-4, 245-pound frame with advanced physicality and strength in his actions. The right-handed hitter begins with a wide, open stance utilizing a lift-and-replace stride to initiate a whippy barrel with strong hands through a slightly uphill path in the zone. Displayed sink into a powerful lower half generating lift with backspin to the deep pull-side gap off the tee. Registered a loud 90 mph bat-exit velocity and recorded an 8.33 60-yard dash. The first baseman featured average footwork with adequate feel around the bag. Played with a middling center of gravity and used soft hands and repeatable transfers yielding accurate 81 mph arm-strength out of a fluid, high ¾ arm-slot.

Drew Wood RHP / 1B / Crossings Christian School, OK / 2022

Displayed a long and lean 6-foot-5, 165-pound frame with projectability and room to add strength as he matures. The left-handed hitter begins with a bennt, open stance utilizing a lift-and-replace stride to initiate a flat barrel path into the hitting zone. A dominant top hand created a pull-side approach with ability to stay on the ball towards the middle of the field. Registered a 76 mph bat-exit velocity off the tee and recorded a 7.46 60-yard dash. The first baseman showcased long actions with average feel around the bag, utilizing soft hands out in front. Demonstrated an accurate 73 mph arm-strength across the infield out of a high ¾ arm-slot with a long takeaway.
