OK Spring Preview: Cement Bulldogs

Andy Urban
Oklahoma Scouting Director

The Oklahoma high school baseball season kicks off on March 2nd, opening day for regular season action under Ossaa regulations. Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we’ll be publishing our team previews ahead of the 2020 spring season, touching on programs spanning all state classifications, leading into a countdown through the official PBR Oklahoma Preseason Power 25 Rankings.

Perennially, we’ve submitted a Preseason Questionnaire to high school head coaches across the entire state. Their responses have been flooding in and we’re using the detailed insight they’ve provided in our team-by-team preseason analysis.

If you would like your team covered, please have your head coach email us at [email protected]

Our 2020 preseason coverage continues today with a look at the Cement Bulldogs.

TOP PLAYERS

Hunter Mackey INF/P, Class 2021, 6'0, 225, R/R, Solid hitter with some pop, tracks pitches well, and makes contact. On Mound has good command, not overpowering with fastball but has a great 12-6 curve and a slider that cuts away from hitters.

Koby Missey Utility, Class of 2021, 5'9", 180, R/R, solid contact hitter with some power, uses speed on bases, and puts ball in play. Can play all positions and has a strong accurate arm in the field.

Ausitn Cogburn C/P, Class 2022, 5'5", 160, R/R, smart contact hitter who uses speed to get on base. Recovering from surgery last summer, but behind the plate keeps runners honest with 2.2 pop time and strong arm.

OUTLOOK

The Bulldog offensive will run on speed. With seven players running between 4.3-4.7 second home to first times. Allowing the speed to play up, Cement will also be proficient at putting the ball in play and hitting for average, putting consistent pressure on the defensive most every at bat. Defensively, the Bulldogs will show solid infield play, and will strive to develop the same in the outfield. Consistent pitching will be the biggest challenge they face, returning only two pitchers with more than 15 varsity innings last year. The Bulldogs have the athletes on the mound, but they will only go as far as those arm develop and mature.
