OK Summer Underclass Games Analysis: LHP's

Prep Baseball Report Oklahoma hosted its first event of the summer at beautiful L.Dale Mitchell Stadium on the campus of OU. This event hosted nearly 80 of the top 2020 and 2019 graduates from around the state for a pro showcase followed by games. These talented underclassmen showed their skills in front of coaches from every level of college baseball as well as the PBR OK staff. 

All of the video, stats, and pictures from the event have been posted on each individual player's profiles. Over the next week and a half, we will be taking an in-depth look at each player from the event position by position. Though a few of the players listed below are two-way players, they will be covered here as LHP's.

LHP's

JORDAN BREWER LHP / 1B / CHOCTAW , OK / 2020

A 6-foot, 160-pound proportional frame. On the mound, works from an up-tempo delivery with some looseness in his arm, coming through a high-¾ slot. Fastball shows some arm-side run, 76-81 mph. Curveball showed 2/8 shape flashing some tight spin and depth, very good left on left pitch. Showed a changeup in warm-ups with some run and sink. In the game, was around the zone with the fastball and the curveball, didn’t give up any hard contact in his inning of work.  

ELI CARTWRIGHT LHP / OF / WESTMOORE, OK / 2020

A 6-foot-2, 183-pound projectable frame with long limbs. On the mound, works only from the stretch with a moderate leg kick. Throws with a full arm circle, coming through a side-arm slot with some looseness. Fastball shows heavy sink and run in game, 75-78 mph. Slider is still developing, flashes  east-west shape, 72-73 mph. Changeup has some fade, 67-68 mph. Threw a majority of strikes in the game.

CHRISTIAN CLACK LHP / 1B / EDISON PREP, OK / 2020

A 6-foot-1, 160-pound proportional frame with room to add strength. Works only from the stretch, smooth with average tempo and a moderate leg kick. Throws from a high-¾ slot. Fastball flashes some sink at 71-75 mph. Curveball rolls with 11/5 shape at 59-60 mph. In the game, filled up the zone with the fastball. 

Jared Gay LHP / 1B / Piedmont, OK / 2020

A 6-foot-1, 205-pound frame with some strength throughout. On the mound, the left-hander uses a controlled delivery and an over the top slot. Fastball keeps its plane at 75-76 mph, but can touch 78. Curveball has gradual 12/6 action, 67-71 mph. Changeup shows some fade, 67-68 mph. In game showed some deception and got two swing-and-misses on the curveball.

Bryce Greene OF / LHP / Choctaw , OK / 2019

A long 6-foot-1, 155-pound frame with plenty of room to add size and strength. Works from an up-tempo delivery with a full arm circle coming through a high-¾ slot. Fastball sits at 64-65 mph. Curveball shows 11/5 shape at 57-58 mph. In the game, retired four batters on 13 pitches.

Cooper McMurray 1B / LHP / Bishop Kelley , OK / 2020

A 6-foot-2, 210-pound advanced frame with some strength. On the mound, the left-hander uses an average tempo delivery with a high-3/4 slot. Fastball ranges from 74-77 mph and showed heavy and late run and sink consistently around the zone. Breaking balls show loose spin, 63-64 mph, 12/6 shape. Threw a quick, scoreless inning in the game, getting two ground balls on the fastball and a punch out looking on the curveball.

CHRIS SPRY LHP / of / jenks, ok / 2020

A 5-foot-11, 200-pound durable frame. Works from an average tempo delivery, drops and dives from his back side as he leans towards the dish. Arm changes direction quickly in the back before coming through an over the top slot with some looseness. Fastball flashes some downhill action, sitting 82-83 mph. Curveball shows consistent tight spin with late 12/6 shape and depth, thrown for strikes early and as a chase pitch late in counts. In the game, Spry struck out five of the six batters he faced, all on the curveball, and induced a ground ball.
