OK Top Senior Games: Third Basemen Analysis

PBR OK hosted the third annual Top Senior Games at the beautiful and fully turfed Wendell Simmons Field at the University of Central Oklahoma. Nearly 50 players showcased their skill in front of the PBR OK staff and 15 colleges including 11 jucos, 2 Ds, and a D1.

Today, we take an in-depth look at the third basemen from the event. 

 

Grant Ewy RHP / 3B / Moore, OK / 2020

Featured a 6-foot, 170-pound long frame. The right-handed hitter starts tall and slightly-open utilizing a quick leg-hang stride to initiate his swing. Demonstrated present sink, getting into a solid lower-half while impacting the ball with a flat-bat path. Hit into a soft front-side yielding an 81 mph bat-exit velocity . Recorded a 7.70 60-yard dash. The secondary third-baseman displayed solid footwork through the ball during defensive evaluations with a soft glove hand. Arrived to the ball on time and consistently with feet that carried accurate 82 mph throws across the infield. A moderate takeaway was used with a quick, high ¾ arm-stroke on the way forward. 

Ty Moore 3B / OF / Verdigris , OK / 2020

Showed control of a 6-foot-2, 200-pound advanced physical frame with a strong lower-half. The right-handed hitter begins from a wide, square stance utilizing a leg-kick to initiate his swing. Entered the zone with a slight uphill bat-path creating backspin to both gaps . Hits to a stiff front-side with present bat-speed through the zone. The primary third-baseman played low to the ground with smooth actions, yielding solid range to both sides. Arrived to the ball fluidly and consistently with momentum that carried through the baseball. Registered throws of 81 mph across the infield utilizing a moderate, high ¾ arm-stroke with room for more. Ran a 7.37 60-yard dash. 

Nolan Reynolds 3B / RHP / Bishop McGuiness, OK / 2020

Displayed a filled-out 6-foot, 220-pound frame. The right-handed hitter begins with a slightly-bent, square stance utilizing a quick toe-tap stride to initiate his swing. Hands start at the shoulder, entering the zone with a flat attack-angle while hitting into a soft front-side. Demonstrated feel for a short stroke, generating consistent barrels . Registered an 87 mph bat-exit velocity. Ran a 7.57 60-yard dash. Showcased developing footwork during defensive evaluations with a short, high ¾ arm-stroke on the way forward. Featured accurate 70 mph throws across the infield.

Gabe Russell 3B / 1B / Owasso, OK / 2020

Displayed feel for a physical 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame with a strong lower-half. The left-handed hitter begins from a bent, even stance with weight slightly shifted towards the backside. A quick leg-kick is utilized to initiate a swing that picks up speed through the zone. Featured an uphill attack angle through the baseball at contact, with sink into a powerful lower-half. Generated consistent backspin to the pull-side registering an 87 mph bat-exit velocity . The primary third baseman showcased easy actions with adequate range to both sides. Demonstrated average footwork on accurate 80 mph throws from his position. By playing lower to the ground, range and first-step quickness will increase. The outfielder flashed smooth actions with feet that at times drifted to the baseball. A moderate takeaway was followed by a long, high ¾ arm-stroke yielding accurate throws of 81 mph during defensive evaluations. 

Brendan Tomlinson 3B / RHP / Choctaw , OK / 2020

A lean 6-foot-2, 170-pound frame with room to add size and strength. The right-handed hitter bats from a back leg heavy and slightly open set-up with some rhythm in his hands   . Uses two strides as he loads his hands, one to get event and then another longer stride before launching his hands on an efficient and slightly uphill path through extension. In BP, shows an all fields and mostly flat approach, mostly barrels, 83 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.41 60. Defensively, shows clean and deliberate footwork with soft hands, fielding the ball slightly deep at times as he funnels the ball to his stomach. Shows a moderate and quick arm stroke coming through a ¾ slot with some accuracy at 79 mph across the diamond.
