OSSAA 6A Regional Preview: Deer Creek Regional

Scott Hood
Staff Writer

The big school regionals are across the state this week and for the first time in nearly two years we have elimination baseball in the spring. After a packed spring of covering high school baseball and many of the top prospects on each team at all levels, PBR takes an in-depth look at each team in every 6A regional. Each team is spotlighted with a look at their team profile and outlook as well as a few of their impact players who have stood out this spring and players to watch as they enter the postseason.

DEER CREEK ANTLERS

OVERALL RECORD: 31-3

DISTRICT RECORD: 13-1

The Antlers have consistently been the best in team in the State throughout the entire season.  Only dropping three games all season long, the Antlers have winning streaks of 8 games and 11 games twice including the current 11 game winning streak they are on entering the postseason.  They attack teams with the most balanced lineup in the State with nine guys capable of beating you on any given day.  They have a good mix of grinder type players with good baseball skills that make them very tough to navigate and they do a great job of not beating themselves.  They will look to carry this momentum into the Regional play and what should be a deep run into the State Playoffs.

IMPACT PLAYERS

JACK HILL, UTL, 2021 – The Senior utility man provides the Antler offense big run production out of the middle of the order as well as give them options defensively being able to play multiple positions.  He hits from a strong base with good gap power and has shown the ability to put balls over the fence.  Hill will also work on the mound for the Antlers making him one of the more valuable players to his team in Oklahoma.  He has been a consistent performer all season and will look carry that into the Postseason.

TY HAMMACK, OF, 2021 – One of the better tool’s guys in the State, Hamack has been having a big season for the Antlers out of the middle of the order.  He has some serious strength at contact and is also a very good athlete with good foot speed.  Another guy that has really good gap power that can lengthen the lineup for the Antlers.

BRYCE LOGAN, SS, 2021 – The Senior shortstop and lead-off man has been in charge of getting the high-powered lineup going from the beginning of the season.  He has a very short swing with good barrel control and quick hands through the zone.  Although undersized, he provides good speed and defense up the middle and plays larger than his stature.

NATHAN ROGALSKI, LHP, 2023 – The Sophomore left hander has the type of stuff that can take over games when on.  He works his fastball in the mid to upper 80’s with an aggressive max effort delivery and has also shown the ability to flash a plus breaking ball and changeup.

LUKE SCHIMMELS, RHP, 2023

ZANDT PAYNE, INF, 2021

DUNCAN KEY, C, 2022

SOUTHMOORE SABERCATS

OVERALL RECORD: 16-19

DISTRICT RECORD: 7-7

The SaberCats have had a streaky season with the wins and losses coming in bunches on both sides.  When they get it rolling, they have shown the ability to get hot and rattle off a bunch of wins in a row.  One of their biggest strengths this season has been their ability to stifle some really good offenses at times with good pitching and defense and even though they come into the Postseason with a tough record in their last ten games, they have held their opponents to an average of only 4 runs per game during that stretch which will be key for them to continue during Regional play.

IMPACT PLAYERS

RYAN GUITERREZ, SS, 2022 – The Junior shortstop mans the middle of the order for the SaberCats and has shown his knack for collecting extra bases.  Keeping his bat hot rolling into Postseason play is critical for the Southmoore’s run production.

KADEN WICKERSHAM, RHP, 2021 – The Senior right hander toes the rubber as the ace of the staff using his mid to upper 80’s fastball and tight slider in the lower 80’s.  Wickersham gets good tilting action on the fastball and has been lights out in his last couple of starts allowing only two earned runs over 11 innings pitched and picking up 12 punchouts along the way.

HUNTER NUNN, C, 2022

DANIEL SATTERLEE, RHP, 2022

MOORE LIONS

OVERALL RECORD: 16-17

DISTRICT RECORD: 7-5

The Lions have had an up and down season throughout the 2021 campaign but there is some strength showing in what they were able to accomplish in their District record.  The Lions have had a good mix of underclassmen stepping up with some Seniors getting it done down the stretch.  They come into the postseason winning 4 out of their last 5 games and have started to show the ability to finish off some of the close games that they were losing earlier in the year.
