The big school regionals are across the state this week and for the first time in nearly two years we have elimination baseball in the spring. After having covered high school baseball and many of the top prospects on each team, PBR takes an in-depth look at each team in every 6A regional. Each team is spotlighted with a look at their team profile and outlook as well as a few of their impact players who have stood out this spring and players to watch l as they enter the postseason. 

Owasso Rams

OVERALL RECORD: 29-4

DISTRICT RECORD: 12-2

The Rams have put together one of the more impressive resumes across the State this season.  They have the ability to go three shutdown left-handers deep, which make them primed for another run at a State title. Their lineup is balanced with a couple of impact bats in the middle of the order surrounded by a bunch of tough out grinders.  One of the more physical lineups in the State, the Rams have multiple guys in the lineup that can leave the yard at any time and have shown their ability to handle the strike zone and take their walks.  The combination of dominate starting pitching to go along with the power bats in the lineup will make the Rams a tough out in this regional.

IMPACT PLAYERS

BRENNAN PHILLIPS, OF/LHP, 2022 – The Junior has put together some of the more impressive outings across the State both at the plate and on the mound.  He uses his 88-90 mph fastball to go along with his mid 70’s devastating curveball to punch guys out at a ridiculous rate.  When his stuff is landing in the strike zone, he is as unhittable as any other arm in the State.  At the plate he has shown the ability to drive the ball out of the ball park with some serious strength in the barrel and plays very good defense in center as well. Oklahoma State commit.

BRODY GREEN, SS/RHP, 2021 – The tall and lean Senior shortstop has had a big year so far with the Rams providing big production at the plate.  He uses his quick twitch swing to drive the ball to all fields with pop and is a pretty good runner as well.  They will bring him in off of short stop to finish ball games on the mound where he has shown a quick arm and solid breaking ball this year. Texas Christian commit.

SOLOMON SKALNIK, OF, 2022 – The physical left fielder provides a big bulk of the production in the middle of the Ram’s offense.  He’s got very good strength in the barrel and has shown the ability to drive the ball with gap power pretty consistently all year.  

JACKSON FERRELL, LHP, 2024 – The Freshman left-hander has been one of the more consistent performers on the mound all season across the State in 2021.  He works the fastball in the 79-82 range and shows really good feel for a big curveball and changeup with arm side fade.  What makes him so tough is ability to throw any pitch in any count while being able to locate all three.

BROKEN ARROW TIGERS

OVERALL RECORD: 20-9

DISTRICT RECORD: 9-4 

The Tigers came into the 2021 season with a roster full of underclassmen that lacked Varsity experience and not knowing exactly what they were going to have.  A few months later they have proven themselves to be able to play with anyone in the State with a balanced roster both on the pitching side as well as in their lineup.  A very scrappy offense for opposing pitching staffs to navigate, the Tigers can potentially have nine guys beat you on any given day.  The future for Broken Arrow is very bright but don’t be shocked if these younger players that have now gotten a season’s worth of experience under them make some noise in the postseason.

IMPACT PLAYERS

LANDON FLUSCHE, RHP, 2023 – The Sophomore right hander started the season working out of the bullpen to later transitioning to the starting rotation.  He attacks hitters with a solid three pitch mix with the fastball working into the mid 80’s.  Flusche will come right after hitters with the ability to miss barrels and when the command is good look for a lot of strikeouts and early outs.

GRAYSON CHILDERS, INF, 2023 – The Sophomore infielder has had an impressive first look at the Varsity level being a mainstay in the middle of the order for the Tigers all year.  He uses his long-levered swing with good gap power to provide run production for Broken Arrow.  

JAXON GREGORY, INF, 2023 – The Sophomore first baseman has provided a big spark to the lineup down the stretch moving into the three-hole in the lineup as of late.  He has shown the ability to drive the ball to all fields with a level bat path and good bat speed.

PUTNAM CITY PIRATES

OVERALL RECORD: 13-19

DISTRICT RECORD: 3-10

The Pirates enter Postseason play winning three out of their last five games and have shown their ability at times to put up some runs in big numbers.  They have put up double digit runs in nine of their games this season all resulting in wins.  They will be looking to get their offense jump started early and if the bats get hot, they are capable of scaring a few teams this week.

PONCA CITY WILDCATS

OVERALL RECORD: 8-23

DISTRICT RECORD: 4-10

The Pioneers have had a tough road competing against some of the blue bloods of Oklahoma in their District but have shown their ability to compete on multiple occasions.  The have been able to close out tight games with a 3-1 record when the outcome is decided by 3 runs or less showing that they play the game with some toughness.  They have been able to get a lot of underclassmen some Varsity experience this year which should help the program take steps forward in the future.
