PBR OK Power 25: Week Four

Scott Hood
OK/MO/KS/ARK Assistant Scouting Director

We're now officially a month into the season and the results are starting to paint a clearer picture of who might be a contender come May with a couple of teams starting to truly separate themselves.  As always results will carry the most weight in the Power 25.  Win big games, move up higher.  We take a look at the entire picture from the roster, how the program is playing lately, their strength of schedule, and their strength of record.  There have been some programs so far this year that we have been waiting on until their strength of schedule improved so they can prove themselves on the field and make the Power 25.

Bixby remains number one as they have still yet to lose a game inside the border of Oklahoma.  Moving up to number 2 on the list this week are the Union Redhawks thanks to their big sweep over previous number 2 Stillwater and capping that off with an undefeated weekend at the Galdys Winter in Enid.  Putting together the Power 25 can be a challenge at times when you're dealing with different records and different schedules from all of the classes from all over the state.  It would be hard to argue that these two teams have separated themselves from the rest of the pack as of late and we get a chance to let them settle in on the field as the prepare for their two game set starting Monday night.

Broken Arrow continues to see a steady climb in the rankings moving up a spot to number 6 as they continue to pick up big wins.  Carl Albert is another team that has not lost a game inside the state of Oklahoma and they continue to roll with their 13-1 record.  Sapulpa sees themselves enter the top 10 for the first time this year as they continue to play good baseball and have picked off a couple of Power 25 opponents in the past couple of weeks.

As the season progresses we usually have a better understanding of where everyone should fit in the rankings thanks to their body of work.  And then we get to the top of 4A, and getting them in order has been a very tough challenge.   You have Tuttle who has racked up 16 wins already in 2023, but their one loss is to Blanchard which we were in attendance for last Thursday.  You've got Blanchard who has largely dominated their competition this year but dropped a tough one to Elk City on Friday night.  And finally you have Elk City who has also racked up 16 wins including the big one against Blanchard on Friday as well as dominating a good Chickasha team, but has lost to Tuttle earlier in the year.  The fun part is they have all played each other and they are each 1-1 against each other.  All three teams have the type of talent to win a state championship and following the top of the class will be fun for the rest of the year.
