PBR OK Power 25: Week One
Mon March 13, 2023
Scott Hood
OK/MO/KS/ARK Assistant Scouting Director
After a week and a half of games in the 2023 season, PBR Oklahoma tackles the Week One Power 25. The Power 25 is put together with the combination of team talent, records, strength of schedule, and our own scouting eyes. Especially early on in the season as teams gather more information on their own clubs and start to find their way, teams are not overly punished for dropping games especially when they tackle a tougher a schedule. As the season progresses, the rankings will rely heavily on results with more weight towards district wins and wins against other Power 25 opponents. Although results are the main factor in putting together the Power 25, there is some projection in how we believe teams will fare as the season continues especially early on in the season.
Even after a tough stretch in Texas the Spartans have gotten back on track with a full roster and remain on top of the Power 25 after week one. They still have one of the more dynamic rosters and deeper pitching staffs that should settle as we head deeper into the season. Owasso keeps it's spot in the 2 hole after a quick 4-0 start before dropping a few games including two one run losses in Florida on their spring break trip. Edmond North and Sand Springs see a slight rise in the rankings after their hot starts with the Huskies sweeping their Power 25 district opponent and the Sandites taking a game in dominate fashion against Owasso this past Tuesday.
One of the bigger movers in the Power 25 comes from the 3A Washington Warriors after picking up a top 10 win as well as showing some serious strength in our early looks at them. The Enid Plainsmen see a rise after a hot start with 5 wins to open the season including a dominate win against a Power 25 opponent. One of the bigger surprises early on has been Carl Albert and their perfect start to the season including a win against a Power 25 opponent. The Titans have a much deeper pitching staff compared to last year and will only continue to improve as a big part of their roster comes back from basketball season. The Broken Arrow Tigers have shown some strength early on the year and see their stock rise 4 spots as they get off to a perfect 6-0 record. After one week we have a new entry to the Power 25 with the Blanchard Lions making their debut at number 24. Although the roster is on the younger side and they had a ton of holes to fill from graduation last year, these young Lions have shown early on they can build off their 4A State Championship in 2022 and should be one to keep an eye on as the season progresses.
