2018 Tournament 12 All-Tournament Team

PBR Canada Staff

With 5 exciting days with some of the best baseball in the entire country and a great look at 160 players from all over Canada, we put together your First Team - All T12 Tournament Team after going back and forth between the PBR Canada Staff.

This is strictly the top performances of the week, not necessarily the top committed players or who we think will be a top draft pick in June, simply put these players stood out on the field over the last 5 days with their performances whether it be with the bat, defensively, their ability on the basepaths or the 5 dudes who studded out on the mound this week.

We go one player at each position, with 5 arms being named to make a total of 15 players being named and 9 of them still being uncommitted.

2018 Tournament 12 All-Tournament Team

CATCHER

Owen Diodati C / A.N. Myer, ON / 2019

Report: The Alabama commit flexed his muscle this week, launching two homeruns into the bleachers in left-field while also throwing out the fastest runner in the country in Dasan Brown. The power is where Diodati separates himself and it was on display all week.

FIRST BASEMAN

Blake Buckle C / OF / Craig Kielburger, ON / 2019

Report: Your Tournament MVP, the uncommitted Buckle will be a highly touted player for schools looking to fill their 2019 class and need left-handed help offensively. Always fun to watch him swing, Buckle makes consistent hard contact and shows pull side power. There is bat speed and balance, with ability to move the barrel around the zone as he stay through baseballs with loud contact. Improved defender in the outfield and can play first base as well catch, somebody will get a steal with Buckle.

MIDDLE INFIELD

Bryce Arnold SS / 2B / Blessed Trinity, ON / 2020

Report: Arnold continues to raise his game to another level as he put together quality at-bats all week while eating up everything that came his way on the infield. The Campbell commit is undersized, but his game plays big and is only getting better with a very high ceiling. He ended up with an average of .385 that included a triple and 7 runs scored for the T12 Champions Ontario Green.

Josh Walker SS / 3B / Lambrick Park, BC / 2019

Report: Walker, a Victoria Mariners product hit, hit, than hit some more at the Rogers Centre this past week. Short, simple stroke from the left side, it was line drives all over the field while the infielder also ran a 6.77 in the sixty. A very toolsy player, Walker had one of the purest strokes and should be a highly recruited 2019.

THIRD BASEMAN

Tyrell (TJ) Schofield-Sam 3B / OF / North Park, ON / 2019

Report: Schofield, the top uncommitted position player in Ontario’s 2019 class was a key contributor in Ontario Green’s championship run both at the plate and at third-base. Showed improved footwork and first step, made some really nice plays ranging to his left and the arm strength plays well from the hot corner. He stepped up at the plate the last two days,

OUTFIELDERS

Dasan Brown OF / SS / Abbey Park, ON / 2019

Report: The Texas A&M commit Brown easily had one of the best weeks both during game action, along with being a standout on Scout Day with a 6.35 sixty. The swing has improved for Brown with a more simple approach and less moving parts, which equalled to less swing and miss and allowing him to get the ball into play more and let his speed work. Was as releiable as you can be in centre-field, with a quick first step and making some big time plays going back on balls. Definitely raised his stock this past week.

Micah McDowell SS / OF / Foothills Composite, AB / 2019

Report: The Okotok Dawgs product from the east coast of Nova Scotia, it felt like every time you look McDowell was on base, and when he is on base, it usually isn’t for long as he had 4 bags under his belt after Game 1 and 7 total on the week. One of the most improved players in the country, McDowell still has room to grow physically but the athletic outfielder uses the whole field offensively while the hand-eye and level swing make him a very tough out at the plate. McDowell has continued to perform on a national stage and people are starting to take notice nationally.

Daniel Martin OF / SS / Langley, BC / 2019

Report: Martin, the 2019 Niagara commit did what he usually does, and that is hit as he batted .462 with 6 knocks in 13 at-bats this past week. The left-handed hitting Martin found holes all over the infield and did show the pop in his bat, launching a ball albeit foul down the right-field line that had no doubter written all over it. Versatile as he can play multiple positions on the diamond, Martin is as reliable as they come with the bat and making something happen at the plate.

Willy Alexander Diaz Vasquez SS / OF / St. Francis Xavier, AB / 2019

Report: Diaz ran a 6.59 on the scout day and he has the tools to defensively to play on the dirt in the infield or the grass in the outfield. The swing can get long and too big at times, but there is feel there and the hands are quick with looseness in the swing. He’s an athlete with tools that can change ball games and is one of the top uncommitted players in the country from the 2019 class.

DESIGNATED HITTER

Zach Gardiner 1B / OF / OTHS, ON / 2019

Report: Long and lean 6-foot-3 left-handed hitter, Gardiner had some big moment for Ontario Green, none bigger than his double off top ranked lefty Adam Macko in the final as he sat on a curveball, driving it to left-centre to cash two. Gardiner hit .364 on the week and the uncommitted 2019 has a lot of upside to his game with future strength to come and a swing that was controlled and balanced while staying through the middle of the field.

PITCHING STAFF

Brayden Cust RHP / OF / Prospects Academy, AB / 2019

Report: Throwing a no-hitter in the semi-final game easily allows Cust on this list, as he was 84-87 on the mound the entire day vs. Quebec and finished with 12 strikeouts. He was in control from pitch one, and was able to work out of a jam in the 7th and recover after some misplays behind him. He had 3 pitches working that day, and the intriguing part is that Cust can also handle the bat from the left side with looseness and whip while also running a 6.70 on Scout Day. 2019 grad who is going to contribute anywhere he goes.

Eli Saul RHP / 1B / Prince of Wales, BC / 2019

Report: The 6-foot-5, 205-pound Saul out of British Columbia throws from a high 3/4 arm slot and does a good job of getting out front and downhill. With size and strength, Saul’s a presence on the bump, his 86-89 mph fastball demonstrated sink, running in on the hands of right-handed batters, while he located well, using all four quadrants of the strike zone. His curveball was inconsistent, but when he got on top, it had tight spin and was able to produce weak contact and swings and misses. He went five innings allowing a hit with 10K’s, showing his ability loud and clear.

Theo Millas RHP / Alpha Secondary, BC / 2020

Report: Right-hander Millas out of British Columbia was back again for his second year at T12 representing his province. He sat 86-88, topping out at 89 mph, but it’s deceptive out the hands and gets on hitters quick, looking harder than high 80’s. He creates extension out front, really following through, and minimal effort in his delivery, repeating his release point. At times he missed arm side but was able to make in-game adjustments. His curve had 11/5 shape and was one of the sharper breaking balls of the weekend in the 72-75 range, locating at any time in the count. The uncommitted 2020 has a 6-foot-3, 195-pound frame and is one of the top 2020 uncommitted prospects in the entire country.

Chase Florendine RHP / Vauxhall Academy, AB / 2019

Report: Florendine had the most dominant changeup of the week, bugs bunny like from the Alberta native as he worked 4.1 innings, striking out 8 without giving up a run. The fastball/changeup combo worked extremely well off one another as the fastball was 84-87 and the changeup sat 72-73. Fading action on both pitches, the arm works and the feel and pitchability, along with the stuff make him an arm schools need to be on.

Evan O'Toole RHP / OF / Vauxhall Academy, AB / 2019

Report: Arguably the best athlete in the country, O’Toole can let it fly on the mound with a quick arm from a 3/4 slot and worked in the upper 80’s in his first start. There is a lot to polish with the off-speed and feel, but it’s easy to see why so many O’Toole followers are high on the 2019 grad. Not to be outdone on the mound, he can run (6.74 - 60) and there is bat speed and athletic ability at the plate as he barrels up baseballs, albeit unorthodox and raw at times, but the tools play and is someone you want to continue to see do both. High end guy who will be an absolute gift for the school that gets him.
