2020 Fergie Jenkins League - Session 1 & 2 - Quick Hits

Jesse Levine
PBR Ontario Scout

We would like to thank all who participated in PBR Ontario's 2020 Fergie Jenkins League - Session 1 (16U-18U). This was a great opportunity for 2020-2023 prospects to be identified before season, create and update their profiles, as well see where they stack up with their peers. Many players impressed during their individual workouts at the showcase.

In the coming weeks, we will be adding and updating profiles for each of the players in attendance, including complete analysis and video.

2020 Fergie Jenkins League - Session 1 & 2 - Quick Hits

Jesse Dale C / 3B / Forest Hill Collegiate Institute, ON / 2023

Report: A 5-foot-11, 168-pound physical catcher, Dale showed well during the showcase. From the right side of the plate, he takes aggressive, yet controlled swings, he displayed repeatability, consistently barreling up baseballs and tapping into his power. He was 1.94-2.15 behind the plate, got off throws up to 75 mph. The makings to catch are evident. Impressive performance from the young catcher, he will be a close follow going forward.

Aidan McDonald RHP / OF / Grimsby, ON / 2022

Report: McDonald, a 2022 grad and two-way guy, stood out on both ends. It’s an athletic, 6-foot-1, 155-pound frame; there’s current strength, with a build that will take on a lot more weight. His actions were clean in the outfield. He was up to 84 mph; arm action was short and quick. Still raw on the mound, but the arm has a chance to play, and with better body efficiency, there’s more in there. His bat is behind right now, but there’s bat speed and some pop; it will be a matter of cleaning up his mechanics. There’s a lot of upside with McDonald.

Nigel Sebastianelli 2B / SS / Sir Winston Churchill, ON / 2023

Report: Sebastianelli is a 5-foot-7, 105-pound infielder in the 2023 class. Clean actions in the infield, there’s rhythm, he created angles, and allowed for his clean glove actions and transfer to work with ease. It was an impressive showing in the infield. He’s a switch hitter who showed well from the left-side. It’s loose with some quickness. Bat path is clean with bat-to-ball ability. Lots to like with Sebastianelli, he will be an exciting follow.

Brodey Bitove OF / 3B / Upper Canada College , ON / 2023

Report: Bitove, a 5-foot-9, 140-pound first-baseman really impressed in the batters box. From the left side, it’s a smooth swing with extension through the zone. His body works well together; he was on time and got his bat head out consistently. The foundation to hit is there, and with his bat speed and physical maturity, power will come.

Jacob Lupton 2B / RHP / Pauline Johnson, ON / 2022

Report: Lupton put together another strong performance on Sunday. It’s a 6-foot-3, 195-pound frame. He was 75-77, T79 mph, works downhill with extension out front. The makings are in place on the mound. Showed well positionally as well, but the upside is as a pitcher.

Calum Annett 1B / OF / Notre Dame, ON / 2023

Report: Annett, a left-handed hitting first-baseman, impressed in the box. It’s a 6-foot-1, 167-pound frame that has lots of room to add strength. He showed impressive body control, given his current build. The bat worked short and quick through the zone. He’s a name to keep a close eye on going forward.

Noah Baldin SS / C / St. Joseph, ON / 2022

Report: Baldin, a 5-foot-6, 130-pound catcher/infielder, showed well on the day. Behind the plate, he moved well with clean footwork, setting the foundation to get off accurate throws up to 63 mph. He received well in bullpens as well. At the plate, it’s a compact left-handed swing with a clean bat path with loft. A swing that, with strength and development, will play well. He was also up to 72 mph in the infield. There's a lot to like with Baldin, the noticeable gains he has made since the summer are clear.
