Caissie Looks To Carry On Legacy At Michigan

Owen Caissie OF / Notre Dame, ON / 2020

BURLINGTON, Ontario - It did not take Owen Caissie long to realize Michigan was the college he wanted to make a home.

“I got goosebumps when I stepped on the field,” Caissie said of his visit to Ann Arbor in September. “That never happened before.”

Soon after the top-ranked senior in Ontario, who had previously decommitted from Kentucky, decided his future was going to be at the Big 10 school.

“I really liked the atmosphere there,” Caissie noted. “It’s like a town inside the university. The weight room was amazing and the coaches were great.”

The decision to attend Michigan came after Caissie began to question his decision to commit to Kentucky after accepting an offer from the SEC college following the 2018 Future Games.

“My family and I talked about it and we didn’t think it was a good fit,” Caissie explained. “A lot of components went into it. They changed coaches … but even before that I wasn’t happy with the situation and I wanted to make it better.”

Once Caissie made it official, schools took notice.

“When PBR Ontario tweeted out that I had decommitted I got a lot of calls the first day and many more calls after that,” the 6-3 190-pound left-handed hitting outfielder reflected. “George Halim (PBR Ontario Assistant Director of Scouting) and PBR really helped me out a lot.”

Soon after, Michigan showed interest.

“A week after I decommitted they reached out,” Caissie said. “I went on a visit Sept. 7 and they offered then. Two or three days later I took the offer.

“I assume they like my hitting,” Caissie added. “I have a pretty good hit tool and I’m a good athlete.”

Getting noticed by the 2019 College World Series’ runners-up means a lot to Caissie.

“I followed their College World Series run,” Caissie noted. “It was the closest school to home that was in it. They had an amazing run.”
