Our scouting staff is in Ottawa this week as the top 150 players amateur players across the country assemble for the Blue Jays annual Canadian Futures Showcase.

Tuesday was a full showcase day for all position players and Wednesday provided the first live game action. Below, we take a look at the top performers from the first game from game play in Ottawa.

Makaio Cisneros RHP / OF / All Saints Catholic secondary school, ON / 2024

Cisneros, 6-foot-2, 165-pounds, continued to show his upside on the mound last night in his start in the Canadian Futures Showcase. The recent JNT member lives in the mid-upper 80’s with a legit 4-pitch mix. His FB has quality ASR with two different breaking-balls that both get s/m while mixing in a CH that fades. Cisneros has been up to 91 at the Future Games and has been one of the top arms in the country all year long.

Reece Usselman LHP / Langley Secondary, BC / 2022

Usselman, 6-foot-3, 175-pounds, was dominant in his start in Game 1 of the Canadian Futures Showcase. The Oregeon commit shows elite command being able to spot all of his pitches down in the zone whenever he wants. Nothing is straight and the LHP produces a ton of soft contact and uncomfortable swings. Usselman is one of the top pitchers in Canada’s ‘23 class.

Ty Doucette 1B / Foothills Composite, AB / 2023

Doucette, 6-foot-2, 230-pounds, had a hot start to his week at the dish. He went 2-for-2 with 2 loud backside gap doubles. Doucette has an aggressive approach, swinging at pitches with intent to do damage. His physical build comes with easy juice to all fields. Look for the Oregon State commit to have a big week in the box.

Myles Naylor SS / OF / St. Joan of Arc, ON / 2023

Naylor, 6-foot-2, 200-pounds is as physical as they come in the box. Present strength and bat speed produce multiple 100 mph EV’s regularly. Naylor hit a rocket to LF for an RBI single. Naylor is the ranked No. 1 2023 prospect in Canada and is continuing to show why.

Lucas Alberti OF / SS / Humberside Collegiate Institute, ON / 2024

Alberti, 5-foot-10, 175-pounds has been showing up against top-level competition this year. Good feel for the barrel, ability to hit line-drives to all fields with some juice to his pull-side. The uncommitted athletic outfielder looks right on the field and can go get it. Alberti is one of the top OF’s in Ontario’s ‘23 class.

Owen Slater RHP / OF / Brooklin, ON / 2024

Slater came out and continued his upward trend this season, using a three-pitch mix to keep hitters off-balance. The 6-3,165-pound ex-Future Gamer lived mid-high 80s with his fastball, located to both sides of the plate, and landed his secondary for strikes. An easy follow into the Fall season, Slater has a chance to be one of the better arms around.
