Future Games Frenzy: Quick Hits III

On Wednesday, June 29th, our staff headed to Dan Lang Field to host the Future Games Frenzy which allowed our staff to get one final look at players from across the province before selecting the Future Games and Jr. Future Games rosters.

We got a look at 45+ players and we continue to break it all down below with video and reports on five players who stood out to our scouting staff.

2024 RHP Owen Slater (Team Ontario) - Slater, 6-foot-3, 165-pounds, came out and showed out at the Future Game Frenzy on the mound. The RHP was the best we’ve seen him to date. The FB was mid 8’s T86.7 mph and down in the zone, locating it to both sides of the plate with arm side run. The SL was sharp and generated swings and misses and the CH was fading nicely out of the hand. Not one of his pitches are straight, and the sink on the FB combined with the horizontal break of the SL creates a tough AB for hitters. The most impressive thing about this outing from Slater was his pitchability, having confidence in all 3 pitches and being able to mow down hitters with ease. Everytime we see Slater he gets a little bit better, and is definitely one of the more intriguing arms in the 2024 class. 

2024 OF/1B Rocky Johnson (Ontario Terriers) - Johnson, 5-foot-10, 190-pounds, was fresh off a good showing at the NY State Games and continued to showcase his skills at the Future Games Frenzy. Rocky is a physical player that has a strong lower half and makes consistent hard contact in the box. He worked to the big part of the field and finished his day with an 89 mph EV. The swing plays in BP and in game. Rocky is definitely a bat to keep tabs on in the 2024 class. 

2024 RHP/C Allon Seepersaud (Oshawa Legionaires) - Seepersaud, 5-foot-9, 134-pounds, looked good behind the dish and on the mound during the Future Games Frenzy. Behind the dish, it's a quick transfer and accurate throws on the bag with a 2.11-2.23 pop and 70 mph catcher velo. On the mound, Seepersaud throws a 77-79 mph FB that is around the zone. He spun a couple SL’s that showed some break and a CH. With added strength and maturity, Seepersaud will look to keep developing as a player.

2026 3B Adrian Alvarez (Ontario Blue Jays) - Alvarez, 6-foot-3, 195-pounds, immediately stands out when he walks in the park, one of the bigger frames in the ‘26 class. In the box, Alvarez stands in a quiet, open stance and worked up the middle and to the pull side and finished a 81 mph EV. There’s some gap power right now, but as he continues to mature and get stronger, he projects to have some juice. Alvarez showed clean actions at 3B and showed an accurate arm. Alvarez is a projectable player in the 2026 class, we are looking forward to seeing more of him over the next couple of years.  

2026 SS/2B Chase McIlven (Peterborough Tigers) - McIlven, 6-foot, 135-pounds, stood out at the Future Games Frenzy. As a true 2026, he stood out at the dish, working up the middle with line drives off the bat and consistent barrels throughout his round with a 80 mph EV. In the field, it was clean actions and he made the routine plays look routine. McIlven is an intriguing young player from the Peterborough Tigers program that will continue to get better.
