Max Wright is one of the top hitting catchers in the Ontario class of 2016. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound left-handed hitter has continued to improve his craft behind the plate the last few months, and looks to become a hot commodity for recruiters across the nation.

PBR: After battling some injuries last summer and playing through some nagging ones, how does it feel to be 100 percent and playing?

Wright: It feels amazing. After having the summer I had, it really helped me never take things for granted and gave me a lot of time to work on the mental aspect of the game. Being injured was really hard but it really made me better physically and mentally.

PBR: Being selected to Tournament 12 in the first round of announcements must of felt pretty satisfying, what were you able to take away from the experience?

Wright: Being selected in the first round of announcements meant a lot as it was rewarding for all of the hard work I had put in. Tournament 12 was one of the greatest experiences I’ve had playing baseball, being able to play at the Rogers Centre in front of a ton of scouts and recruiters was awesome.

PBR: What areas of the game do you feel are your strengths?

Wright: I feel that the offensive side of my game is my biggest strong point. I always have an idea of what I want to do at the plate and try to work at bats. That said, I think my defense is the thing that has most improved over the last year and I’m really happy with how that is coming along.

PBR: What universities or colleges do you have an interest in attending?

Wright: Michigan State, Illinois, and Stony Brook just naming a few. I want to go to a school with a good baseball program that plays in a solid conference.

PBR: What are your expectations on the recruiting process?

Wright: I’m not too sure on what to expect on the recruiting process but I’m excited to start getting my name out there and we’ll see what happens.

PBR: What has been the most memorable moment from this past summer?

Wright: The most memorable moment of the past summer was winning the NABF High School World Series in Knoxville, Tennessee. We had a tough start to the tournament as we lost our first game and there were a ton of rain delays. The team really just grinded it out and we fought all our way to the finals where we beat the team that we lost to in the first game. That was an unbelievable feeling.

PBR: What are your plans for the off-season in Ontario?

Wright: This year I’m really planning on working hard in the weight room to get faster and stronger, and also to get as much work in indoors as possible so I can come out next year and be that much better.

PBR: Who has been the toughest pitcher you have faced in Ontario?

Wright – I hate giving credit to pitchers but Isaac Anesty is a tough pitcher to face, especially lefty on lefty. He has a cross-body delivery and he hides the ball well so it’s tough to pick up the ball.
