ON Scout Blog: Toronto Mets vs. Ontario Blue Jays (16U)

Josh Arce
PBR Canada, Lead Scout

The baseball season in Ontario is now in full swing as the calendar flips to June and the weather has finally heated up. The in-game action across the province has also heated up and our staff has been there to take it all in.

Our scouting staff continues to take in live-game action to get a look at players following a winter and spring with the majority of our looks at prospects coming indoors.

This past week we had staff in the Toronto area where we got a look at the 16U Toronto Mets taking on the 16U Ontario Blue Jays. There was plenty of talent between both rosters and we begin to break down everything we saw below with scouting notes and video on the standouts from the game.

ON SCOUT BLOG: TORONTO METS VS. ONTARIO BLUE JAYS (16U)

Will Hynes RHP / RHP / Lorne Park Secondary, ON / 2026

2026 Will Hynes was dominant on the mound for the OBJ 16U’s in Game 2 of their doubleheader Sunday night. He was blowing the FB by hitters early and often working ahead in the count, generating in-zone swing-and-miss and inducing weak contact throughout his outing while mixing in some CH’s with late, heavy fade that was difficult to pick up. His final line was 5 IP, 4 H, 0 BB, 7 K. It was an impressive look at the Wake Forest commit early on in the 2023 season as Hynes will be a close follow for the next few years as the No.1 2026 in the province.

Jordan Jacob 3B / C / Bill Crothers, ON / 2025

2026 Jordan Jacob continues to swing it early on in the 2023 season as one of the more physical bats in his class at 6-foot-1, 195-pounds. In Game 2 of the doubleheader, the ball jumped off his bat for a 2 RBI double to RCF. There's present strength and bat speed that projects to have more power coming down the road as he is still just 15 years old. Jacob came in at No. 8 in the updated 2026 rankings and his game continues to trend upwards.

Drew Stabler 3B / SS / St. Peters Catholic Secondary School, ON / 2025

Stabler, an athletic 5-foot-11, 165-pounds, was a standout bat in the 2-hole of the Mets lineup. Collecting 3 XBH’s on the day, Stabler showed a mature approach working counts and fouling off multiple pitches before spraying the ball foul line to foul line with authority. It was a good first look at Stabler and he will be one to follow in the Mets program.

Liam Kirsh C / 3B / Tanenbaum Chat, ON / 2025

Kirsh continued his strong start to the season with a monster day at the plate Sunday afternoon, highlighted by a no-doubter to LF for a 2-run HR. The swing path is geared for elevation and has flashed some juice from the right-side. Behind the dish, Kirsh is steady with soft hands and a strong, accurate arm, throwing out a runner at 2B. Kirsh should be on college coaches' radars as one of the top catchers in Ontario’s 2025 class.

Keegan Russell RHP / 1B / All Saints, ON / 2025

Russell, 6-foot-5, 235lbs, immediately stands out on the mound and at the dish. Didn’t have his best stuff in his start, but there's lots to like with the XL frame and his mid 80’s FB that has been up to 88.1 mph. At the dish, it was a good piece of hitting in Game 2 taking a FB the other way for a single down in the count. Russell looks the part as one of the more physical 2-ways in the 2025 class.

Tristan Cerrato C / 1B / St. Maximilian Kolbe, ON / 2025

Cerrato came up clutch for the Mets in Game 1 action with a late 2 RBI single to RF to help the Mets rally back to tie the game at 9-9. It was our first look at Cerrato this season since we had him in Georgia at the Junior Future Games and the bat looks quicker from the left-side.

Stevie Waters C / Monarch Park Collegiate, ON / 2025

Waters, 5-foot-11, 185-pounds, showed bat speed and looks to do damage with every swing. In Game 1, he hunted a high FB and crushed it for a 2-run HR to LF. He looked to have no trouble on the infield with a clean game at 2B. Waters flashed some juice from the right-side and is a bat to keep tabs on going forward.

Rivers Freckelton SS / Bill Crothers, ON / 2025

Freckelton had a strong showing during the double header at the plate with 2 XBH’s to the RCF and LCF gaps. Flat swing path through the zone with gap-to-gap power right now and good bat-to-ball skills. Freckelton was with us at the 2022 Junior Future Games and the development since then is evident. He plays the game the right way and handles multiple positions well.
