ONTARIO PROSPECTS WORKOUT NOTES (2/28)

As teams continue to ramp up for Spring Training, our staff has been making the rounds to facilities across the province to get an early look at players.

On Monday, scouting intern Josh Arce stopped by the Ontario Prospects facility as the team had live at-bats going before they join us next weekend at PBR Spring Training in Panama City Beach.

Below, we take a look at four players who jumped out to our staff on Monday.

Mitchall Gordon RHP / 1B / Donald A. Wilson, ON / 2022

Gordon, 6-foot-1, 200-pounds, is a big physical presence in the box and on the mound. At the dish, he impressed with controlled violence hitting balls hard all over the field. Pull side juice is there, also hit multiple balls hard the other way. Looks to do damage, finished with a 97 mph exit velo. On the mound, Gordon threw his 3-pitch mix for strikes and had a solid 2 innings of work. His FB was 82-84 mph, CH 73-74 mph, and CB 69-70 mph. The Niagara County CC commit will look to continue to show well in Panama City Beach next week.

Maddox Shaver SS / RHP / Eastside Secondary School, ON / 2023

Shaver, 5-foot-10, 170-pounds, showed well at the plate. He has a strong lower half, and made consistent hard contact in both of his rounds. Hits the ball where it's pitched, and shows pull side pop.  He doesn't get cheated at the plate but is under control with a 95 mph exit velo. Shaver is going to be an interesting follow as we will see him in Panama City Beach, Florida next week.

Trent Duncan OF / RHP / East Side Secondary, ON / 2022

Duncan, 5-foot-9, 150-pounds, was the most consistent arm on the night. He showed well on the mound with his 79-81 mph FB, topped at 82 mph. He got ahead of just about every hitter and proved he can throw his secondary pitches in any count with confidence. His CB was 67-69 and his CH was 71-72. He has a quick, live arm and had a good 2 innings of work. Struck out multiple hitters with his CB. Also a switch hitting OF, Duncan will look to impress on both sides of the ball next week at the PBR Spring Training event in Florida.

Adam Carmichael RHP / 3B / Sinclair , ON / 2024

Carmichael, 5-foot-11, 145-pounds, was the best young arm that threw last night at the Ontario Prospects workout. Carmichael sat 78-80mph and topped at 81 mph with an effortless delivery. Carmichael pounds the zone and can throw his 66-68 mph CB for strikes, and an effective strikeout pitch. He had 2 K’s in 2 innings with the CB. As Carmichael fills out, there will be more in the tank. We look forward to watching him pitch in Florida at Spring Training.
