Our staff was all over the province once again this past week catching games from several different leagues in the Greater Toronto Area. Our staff continues to get in-game looks ahead of the upcoming Future Game Trials, with the Future Games just over one month away!

Below we take a look at nine players who stood out during our game coverage this past week.

Tristan Cerrato C / 1B / St. Maximilian Kolbe, ON / 2025

After impressing during Spring Training, Cerrato has started out the summer strong on both sides of the plate. Cerrato showed off smooth and easy actions behind the plate with soft hands, an ability to steal strikes, and the ability to get behind balls in the dirt. The young catcher presented good IQ behind the dish, athletic actions, throws on the bag, and a quick transfer with an arm that will only get stronger. From the left side of the plate, the uncommitted ‘25 makes for a tough out, showing good feel with the barrel and spraying the ball across the diamond. Lots to like here as Cerrato will only improve with time and maturity.

Aidan Uylenbroek OF / RHP / Eastview Secondary School, ON / 2025

After our first look at Uylenbroek at the Northern Games, we knew we wanted to see more. The lanky 6-foot-3, 165-pound frame jumps out in centre field and impresses with athletic movements and good instincts to the ball. At the plate, the uncommitted ‘25 is patient, waiting for pitches to drive across the diamond. He consistently barrels the ball to all fields with a compact swing that shows potential juice. The projectable frame with plenty of room to fill out, along with Uylenbroek’s intriguing athleticism makes him one of the more exciting outfielders of Ontario’s 2025 class.

Giancarlo Sortino SS / 2B / St. Maximilian Kolbe, ON / 2025

As the top-ranked shortstop in Ontario’s 2025 class, Sortino didn’t disappoint. With a long and wiry 6-foot-1 frame, Sortino’s projectable body stands out on the left side of the infield. The uncommitted ‘25 presents soft hands, smooth actions and good instincts at shortstop. Sortino also flashed some arm strength and good accuracy on throws across the diamond, and from different slots. From the right side of the plate, Sortino shows glimpses of barrel control, sitting back and driving the ball the other way. As he continues to develop the bat and add strength, the young shortstop is one to follow.

Mac Robertson RHP / Eastdale Collegiate and Vocational Institute, ON / 2023

Robertson continues to show well this year on the mound. He earned PBR Spring Training All Tournament 1st Team honors after his performance in Florida over spring break and he looked right on the mound Saturday night. Robertson shows good mound presence and composure standing 6-foot-2, 210-pounds, going right at hitters working downhill with his 83-85 T86 FB. He spun a few good looking 70-73 CB’s that got him 2 K’s in his second inning of work. Robertson is an uncommitted arm that colleges should have on their radar going forward.

Brodie (B.J.) Peart SS / 2B / Peoples Christian Academy, ON / 2023

Peart immediately stood out at SS Saturday night with his 6-foot-3, 185-pound frame. Peart was steady at SS all night long, making some slick plays in the 5-6 hole and on choppers. He showed good hands and some arm strength with the ability to throw out of different arm slots. At the dish, he was a tough out at the plate, highlighted by a loud liner in RCF. Peart is projectable and is an uncommitted guy to take a look at in the 2023 class.

Nate King C / SS / St Thomas, ON / 2023

King was impressive behind the plate Saturday night in Ajax making multiple blocks and receiving with soft hands at the bottom of the zone. His agility and flexibility allow him to get low in his crouch and block balls to his sides smoothly. At the dish, he made some loud contact throughout the game, capping the night off with a hard line drive to the RCF gap for an RBI single. It’s a line drive approach that works to all fields. King also impressed earlier this year making the Ontario Youth Team that will be competing at the Canada Summer Games.

Ethan Price RHP / OF / St.Stephen Catholic Secondary School, ON / 2022

It was business as usual for Price Wednesday night in Oshawa as he had another strong start for the Oshawa 18u squad. He used a 3-pitch mix to attack hitters early and often working ahead in the count during his 3 innings of work. The FB was 85-87 T89 that was down in the zone generating swing and misses. Price’s SL and CB were buckling pitches all night and made for some uncomfortable AB’s for hitters. Price will be heading to Cloud County CC in the fall.

DJ Mazzaferro SS / RHP / USS, ON / 2025

Mazzaferro had a good start for the 15u Ontario Prospects squad Tuesday night in Oshawa inducing soft contact. FB was around the zone and he got his CB going in his 2nd inning, freezing hitters for K’s. He flashed a couple change ups that showed some fade. Mazzaferro has an athletic build and there is definitely more in the tank. He will be a close follow going forward in the 2025 class.

Owen Weales OF / RHP / Bowmanville, ON / 2025

This was our first look at Weales and he impressed at the dish. Weals had 3 hard hit balls to his pull side, one for XBH. Weales is very raw in his actions, but there’s a bat to ball skill and some athleticism in his game. Looking forward to seeing more of this uncommitted 2025 outfielder.
