Ontario Terriers Workout Notes (02/17)

Our staff stopped by the Ontario Terriers facility this past Thursday to get a look at the hitters across the organization. 

We had on eyes on 30-40 players from the 2022 - 2025 classes, including a trio of Team Canada Junior National Team players. Below, our staff breaks down five players from who stood out at the dish. 

Report: O’Hearn, a 6-foot-5, 195 pound outfielder stood out immediately with his long, lean frame. At the dish, O’Hearn put together the loudest round of BP we saw on Thursday, attacking the ball with an aggressive swing and it jumped off his bat. He was up to 98.8 mph and was consistent all night long showcasing his power to the pullside with an aggressive swing. There is huge upside in O’Hearn’s game as he prepares to head to Northeastern JC.

'22 C Hugh Pinkney
Report: 2022 catcher and Rutgers commit, Hugh Pinkney, stood out among his peers on Thursday with a lean, athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 180-pounds. It's a controlled, balanced swing from the left-side with quick, loose hands through the zone. The bat path and hands allow his swing to work to all fields. His exit velo's were consistently in the 90-95 mph range with a best of 95.8. One of the best all-around catchers in Canada. 

'23 OF Cameron Chee Aloy
Report: Chee-Aloy, a 6-foot, 175-pound outfielder was a standout at the Terriers practice facility this past week. You can feel the energy when he steps in the box and he's a spark plug type of player. Chee-Aloy didn’t get cheated at the dish, swinging hard in his two rounds of BP, topping at 92 mph. He has a quick twitch swing and turns it loose with excellent bat speed. The Illinois commit carries some of the best tools in Ontario's 2023 class.

'23 OF/3B Nolan Goranson
Report: Uncommitted Nolan Goranson was one of the 2023s who set himself apart on Thursday. He looked noticeably stronger, standing at 6-foot, 175-pounds with a lean, athletic frame. The right-handed hitter had two loud rounds BP, hitting line drive after line drive to all fields with some lift to the pullside. His top exit velocity of 94.5 was one of the best we saw on the day. An exciting uncommitted 2023 for college coaches to keep tabs on this spring.

'24 C Lee Jones
Report: Uncommitted 2024 catcher Lee Jones was a bit of an unknown going into the day but he put himself on the radar for the upcoming season. Jones has a big, strong frame and swings it from the left side. He was finding the barrel consistently throughout his BP with a good looking swing and bat path. He swung the wood bat well and the ball was jumping off his bat with a top exit velocity of 92.9 mph. Interested to get a look at the rest of Jones' game this spring once teams head outdoors.
