Ontario Top Ten Breakdown: Top Viewed Prospect Profiles - #8 Cooper Davis

Cooper Davis#8 Cooper Davis, OF, 2017 (Vanderbilt commit)
Background: Strong 5-foot-10, 185-pound frame, defined lower half, proportional strength, compact quick-twitch athlete. High-level athlete, ran an event-best 6.77 laser-timed 60 on slow track. Left-handed hitter, top-of-the-order type. Hits from open setup, rhythm in stride/load, simple and quiet. Short to the ball, flat path, handsy approach, though when urged to let it fly, showed some pull-side pop during BP.  In game, lined a single up the middle, flew out to right fielder, and grounded out twice to second and first base. Defensively, moves well in outfield, can cover ground, average carry on throws.

Overview: A high end athlete with game changing speed, the Canadian Junior National Team starting centre fielder committed to highly regarded Vanderbilt Commodores of the SEC. Davis has been a under the spotlight since he was 14 years old, stepping onto the scene with trail blazing speed and the ability to handle velocity at a young age, the left-handed bat produces plenty of contact with loose hands while trying to stay inside the ball. Davis will surprise with power to his pull side every now and then if something is left up as the bat speed and strength is there for him to do that. His game is contact though, putting pressure on the defense with routine ground balls to the left side becoming base hits. His knack for getting on base, turning singles into triples, and being able to contribute in many different aspects of the game hail comparisons from some to left fielder Brett Gardner. Davis should be able to play a role early on for the Commodores, and once he gets in a lineup, he typically does enough to not ever come back out. The talented outfielder sits at the number four spot in the 2017 rankings in Ontario, while coming in at 95 overall. Sky is the limit for Davis, we look forward to watching his journey.
