Ontario Unsigned Senior Watch

Cam Black-Araujo
Lead Scout, PBR Canada

Regular season schedules loom across the province as the calendar has officially flipped to the month of May. Many teams have even had the chance to get some exhibition play in recently.

Looking through the 2022 rankings, there's still a ton of intriguing names on the board who have the ability to help make an impact on a college program next year. Our Lead Scout, Cam Black-Araujo, takes a look at four of the top seniors in Ontario who are still uncommitted.

Nolan McCrossin 3B / C / South Ridge, ON / 2022

We’ve had a look at McCrossin several times over the past six-plus months at major events across the province and it’s always the right-handed bat that catches the attention. Present strength at 6-foot, 200-pounds and the swing plays to the pull side with extra-base power. Defensively, McCrossin has recently made the switch to the catching position so it will be interesting to see how that looks outdoors this summer.

Zach Kourous SS / OF / Earl Haig , ON / 2022

Kourous has a very well-rounded toolset, starting with his speed and 6.66 60-time. Undersized right now at 5-foot-10, 160-pounds and is a gap-to-gap hitter from the left side with exit velo’s in the low 90s. Kourous can confidently play several positions defensively, thanks to his speed, athleticism and feel for the game. A toolsy player who was with us at the NorthEast Senior Games last summer.

Brysen Vernon OF / OF / St. Thomas of Villanova , ON / 2022

Vernon has long stood out at the plate with the sheer strength he portrays. Vernon hits the ball hard and we feel he is just scratching the surface with the production he is going to have at the next level. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound outfielder has now bat speed and uses an aggressive approach at the plate that very rarely sees himself get cheated. Expect power numbers to climb this summer and take him into school being someone who will do damage offensively.

Tyler Bono RHP / 3B / Sacred Heart, ON / 2022

Our staff saw Bono last month in Arizona on the Langley Blaze Pro Tour and the big, athletic body fit in on backfields of spring camps. 6-foot-5, 215-pounds and he swings the bat from the right-side with intent. The power potential from the Watson Elite first baseman will be the carrying tool and he’s also gifted on the hockey side as well. Bono was drafted in the first-round of the OHL Midget Draft after playing for the Jr. A Cornwall Colts this winter.
